Hood Industries, Inc. is a blend of wood manufacturing and distribution concerns that include two plywood, three lumber manufacturing plants, and twenty-four specialty wood product distribution operations, located in eighteen states serving Arizona, North Texas, the eastern US as well as the Caribbean markets.
We are seeking a skilled Planer Technician to join our team. The ideal candidate will have experience setting up, operating, and maintaining planer machines to ensure the efficient processing of lumber. Additionally, the Planer Technician will be responsible for mentoring and training employees. Key Responsibilities:
• Responsible for training and developing other employees on how to set up, adjust, maintain, and improve the planer machine.
• Set-up and operate planer machines to surface and size lumber according to specifications. This includes selecting and installing knives in the cutterhead, adjusting table levels, pressure bars, and feed rolls.
• Perform and ensure the proper routine maintenance is conducted such as greasing and oiling the planer machine, sharpening cutters, planer machine alignment, and conducts repairs to ensure the machine operates efficiently.
• Able to correctly diagnose advanced maintenance problems and malfunctions on the Planer Infeed and Planer. Proactively communicates existing and potential issues to Supervision and the Maintenance Department.
• Able to independently perform necessary preventative maintenance, parts replacement, full line-up of entire machine to tolerance ( /-.005”) to manufacturer specifications.
• Performs/assists the maintenance department in planer maintenance and repairs.
• Maintains parts inventory for planer components and is fully trained on determining parts numbers for reorder.
• Responsible for quality control/inspections and reporting any defects or issues to Quality Control Techs and Supervisor.
• Responsible for inspecting planed lumber to verify smoothness, appearance of cut and proper thickness of stock while using gauges and following rules.
• Maintain a safe and clean work area, adhering to safety protocols, and ensuring the work environment is free from hazards.
• Work with other team members to ensure efficient production and cross-trains in other areas of the mill to provide support as needed.

• Must have experience in inspecting lumber to ensure quality standards.
• Ability to troubleshoot, analyze and repair equipment to eliminate downtime.
• Able to work safely and follow all company policies and procedures.
• Strong technical knowledge related to planer operation, including set-up and maintenance.
• Experience replacing, sharpening, and jointing knives.
• Must be able and willing to use computers to troubleshoot and align/repair equipment.
• Must have a minimum of 3-5 years of experience operating, setting up, and maintaining a planer machine.
• Must have demonstrated leadership and team skills.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.

• Willing and able to pull and lift to 50 lbs.
