Hoofprint Biome is a start-up that is leveraging biotechnology to avert the climate crisis. We are engineering enzymes and probiotics to eliminate methane emissions from cattle while also improving nutritional quality and yield. We believe that cattle are a key pillar of sustainable agriculture and human nutrition, and eliminating their methane emissions will enable transformative progress in the fight against climate change.

We’re looking for a talented and dedicated team member who is passionate about animal, human, and planetary health. You must be motivated, comfortable with a fast-paced work environment, team oriented, and committed to the research mission. The best candidates will enjoy problem-solving, organizing, and supporting scientific innovation in many forms. Hoofprint works with a small research herd of dairy heifers housed at the NC State University campus. We work alongside both academic and industry groups pushing the boundaries of agricultural innovation.

Who you are/what you bring:

  • B.S. in Animal Science, Zoology, Biology or related field
  • Experience working with large animals
  • Previous laboratory or research experience is preferred
  • Strong problem solving skills, attention to detail, growth mindset
  • Commitment to collaboration and fostering a team-oriented culture
  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills
  • Curiosity, intention, tenacity, team mindset, and accountability to the mission
  • Access to a car
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and perform physically active tasks (e.g., carrying equipment, standing for extended periods)
  • Must love cows.

Responsibilities include:

  • Animal Care: Assist in the daily care and management of research cattle, including feeding, watering, cleaning, and health monitoring
  • Data Collection and Entry: Collect samples (e.g. rumen fluid, gas, DNA) and record findings and measurements in a laboratory notebook
  • Sample Preparation and Analysis: Prepare biological samples and perform laboratory analysis. Assist Scientists with buffer preparation, DNA extraction, microbial quantification
  • Laboratory Maintenance: Maintain a clean and organized laboratory environment
