What are the responsibilities and job description for the Guest Ambassador position at Hook & Press Donuts?
POSITION: Sales Associate / Cashier
Shifts: Wednesday (12:30-5:00), Friday-Sunday; morning and afternoon shifts available
We are looking for candidates to immediately join our Front of House team at our new location on East Figueroa Street. Our Guest Ambassadors are responsible for creating thoughtful, personalized experiences for our guests by welcoming them into the shop, happily answering questions, swiftly packaging their donut selection and efficiently ringing up their order.
Hook & Press is a fast-paced, team-oriented operation both in the back and front of the house. We refer to our Cashiers and Donut Boxers as Guest Ambassadors because their daily interactions with each individual guest are a vital part of what makes the Hook & Press experience so special. Our unique donuts, drinks and menu speak for themselves, but it takes an exceptional front of house team to make our guests’ experience next level.

Hook & Press is an artisan shop that focuses on scratch-made, craft donuts as well as a small, thoughtfully curated morning cafe menu. We use high quality ingredients and rotate our donut flavors to showcase the best of what’s in season. Naturally, we avoid artificial ingredients and preservatives wherever possible because our customers deserve the best! We hold our beverage program in as high regard as we do our donuts, serving Santa Barbara-based Coastal Coffee Collective coffee drinks and locally crafted beer and wine. But we firmly believe that what keeps people coming back to Hook & Press is our obsession with providing an outstanding customer service experience. We strive to be a place that welcomes every guest with a smile and serves up good vibes, great drinks and amazing food and donuts each time.
WHO WE’RE LOOKING FOR
Guest Ambassadors report to the FOH Manager and/or Assistant FOH Manager on duty, and will be entrusted to make decisions that create the absolute best experiences for our guests. We encourage our crew to be well-rounded team players, willing to do whatever is needed to keep the store running smoothly and who will treat the store with the same care and respect as they would their own home.
Guest Ambassadors will have the opportunity to be cross-trained and tasked to take on different positions within our team.
SKILLS
- Food, Restaurant, and/or Customer Service experience is preferred but not required
- A knack for delivering pleasant, amiable customer service and a desire to make genuine connections with our guests every day
- A friendly attitude and team player mentality are non-negotiables
- Accountable in upholding high standards and able to notice the small details without anyone needing to tell you first
- Quick and adaptable learner, able to work at a steady pace
- Excellent and collaborative communication skills
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Maintain consistent attendance and punctuality; follow the attendance policies set forth by Hook & Press
- Maintain a professional and positive attitude in the workplace
- Balance customer service with a great camaraderie within the company
- Master the art of knowing our guests (i.e. who our regulars are and what they like to order)
- Assist guests in a happy, positive and genuine way every single time to ensure they feel at home; guide them through the menu to find something they like with a welcoming attitude
- Learn and maintain knowledge of our changing menu to effectively communicate all ingredients to guests
- Maintain 100% accuracy when using the POS system, handling money and completing customer transactions
- Neatly and quickly package donut orders, including online pickup orders
- Check product quality and first in/first out throughout shift; alert supervisors whenever donuts don’t look like they meet our quality standards
- Help receive deliveries of boxes, paper goods and other inventory items as needed when delivered
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of online-ordering pick-up area
- Ensure all areas of the front counter and dining room are clean and help restock utensils, napkins and packaging
- Adhere to all safety and health regulation policies set forth at Hook & Press
- Complete opening and closing checklists, always seeking to set the next shift up for success; have closing checklist signed off by the FOH manager or Supervisor prior to completion of shift
REQUIREMENTS
- Excellent punctuality and reliable transportation to and from work
- Ability to inspire co-workers with a positive attitude
- Help build a diverse culture focused on creativity, passion and open communication
- Ability to work in a standing position for the duration of the shift
- Ability to bend, reach, stoop and lift up to 50 pounds
- Ability to work a variety of shifts, including weekends and some holidays
- Fluency to read and communicate in English
- Food Handler’s Certification (within 30 days of hiring)
