Job Summary:
The Purchasing Manager is responsible for overseeing the procurement of materials, supplies, equipment, and services required for concrete and block subcontracting projects. This role involves managing supplier relationships, negotiating contracts, ensuring the timely delivery of quality materials, and optimizing costs while maintaining the company's standards for safety and efficiency.
Key Responsibilities:
- Procurement Planning: Develop and implement effective purchasing strategies for materials such as concrete, blocks, rebar, and other construction-related supplies.
- Vendor Management: Establish and maintain relationships with key suppliers and vendors, negotiate terms, and evaluate supplier performance to ensure the highest level of quality and service.
- Inventory Control: Manage inventory levels to meet project timelines while minimizing excess stock and storage costs.
- Cost Optimization: Conduct cost analyses and monitor market trends to secure the best pricing without compromising quality or project deadlines.
- Contract Negotiation: Negotiate purchasing agreements, contracts, and terms with vendors and subcontractors. Ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements and company policies.
- Order Coordination: Ensure timely delivery of materials to job sites, coordinating closely with project managers and field teams to meet project schedules.
- Supplier Audits: Conduct regular supplier assessments to ensure compliance with company standards for quality, delivery performance, and safety.
- Budget Management: Monitor purchasing budgets, track expenditures, and report on variances. Work with finance to forecast future needs and adjust procurement plans accordingly.
- Problem Solving: Address and resolve issues related to materials availability, delivery delays, and quality concerns in a timely and cost-effective manner.
- Documentation and Reporting: Maintain accurate records of procurement activities, including purchase orders, delivery schedules, supplier agreements, and performance reports.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
- 1 years of experience in purchasing/procurement, preferably within the construction, concrete, or block industry.
- Strong knowledge of concrete, block materials, and related construction supplies.
- Proven experience in negotiating contracts and managing vendor relationships.
- Excellent organizational and multitasking skills with a keen attention to detail.
- Strong problem-solving abilities and the capacity to make decisions under pressure.
- Proficiency in procurement software and Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, etc.).
- Ability to read and interpret construction project plans and specifications.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate with internal teams and external suppliers.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Familiarity with lean construction practices and supply chain optimization techniques.
- Previous experience working in a subcontractor environment within the construction industry.
- Professional certifications in purchasing or supply chain management (e.g., CPIM, CPSM).
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to travel to project sites and supplier locations as needed.
- Ability to lift or move materials and equipment as necessary for site visit
