Job Description
As a member of the Public Affairs and Marketing team, the social media manager is responsible for implementing the college’s social media strategy, seasonal and special campaigns, and providing day-to-day management of the college’s social media presence, under the guidance of the Director of Digital Communications. Using a data-informed approach, they will be asked to enhance the college’s digital marketing initiatives with compelling interactive content for social media and digital advertising campaigns including creating graphics, videos, animation, and other digital content. This position will play an active role within the Public Affairs and Marketing team to ensure the college’s digital and social strategies are fully integrated with other institutional marketing and communication efforts, with an emphasis on supporting strategic enrollment marketing plans, alumni and philanthropic engagement, and institutional priorities.

- Serve as the community manager and primary day-to-day contact for the college’s social media properties on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, YouTube, Snapchat, and TikTok
- Create, edit, publish and share daily content (original text, images, video, etc.) that strategically aligns with the HopeCollege brand to build meaningful connections and encourages positive action
- Actively monitor online conversations about Hope College
- Assist the Director of Digital Communications in continuously developing the college’s social media strategy by measuring and reporting on key metrics
- Set regular benchmarks and goals for social media; Use Google Analytics and platform analytics to monitor the progress of campaigns and goals; Provide detailed reports as needed to campus partners
- Assist in the development of social media and digital advertising strategies, and create multimedia content for advertising campaigns
- Help to manage crisis and emergency communication through social media monitoring and engagement
- Make occasional website updates and other digital marketing tasks
- Serve as a consultant to the campus community on social media strategies and platform troubleshooting
- Host regular meetings to connect with campus social media managers
- Supervise, train, and direct the work of student assistants and student influencers
Qualifications
- A bachelor’s degree in communication, journalism, marketing, advertising, or a related field is required
- Minimum 3-5 years of professional experience managing and developing content for brands on social media platforms including Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, LinkedIn, YouTube, and TikTok
- Experience working in higher education or with marketing to college students is preferred
- Experience creating and implementing digital marketing campaigns is required
- Must be a creative and innovative content developer who has a passion for staying current with the latest digital marketing and social media trends
- Experience with photography, videography and designing images for social media is a must. Experience with Adobe Creative Cloud, Canva and Adobe Premier is preferred
- Experience working in a CMS and Wordpress is a plus
- Understanding of, and experience with, social media analytics and Google Analytics is necessary
- Excellent social media listening skills and discernment to identify and monitor crisis situations and/or the college’s reputation; Ability to apply conflict resolution principles to mitigate potential issues
- Hands-on experience with Sprout Social or other social media management platforms is preferred
- Knowledge of AP Style preferred
