Essential Duties:
The Court Advocate primary responsibility is to provide education and personal advocacy services, not legal advice, to victims of sexual and domestic violence and stalking seeking assistance in the civil &/or criminal justice systems.
- The Case Manager is responsible for secondary advocacy (long-term strategies for intervention). Foremost responsibility is to facilitate program participants’ particular goals, such as establishing independent living, pursuing legal remedies, finding a job, and meeting personal/family needs.
- Represents Hope Haven in the community in a professional, courteous, friendly, and knowledgeable manner .
Essential Functions:

- Provides education to individual victims regarding the dynamics of domestic and sexual violence, safety planning, the Adult Abuse Act, Orders of Protection, Crime Victim Compensation, court and law enforcement procedures, and other information needed to access the justice system.
- Establishes and maintains a collaborative and cooperative relationship with court personnel, law enforcement, prosecution, victim assistance programs, and assists victims with access to the justice system.
- Assumes, when necessary and only at direction of the victim, the role of liaison with civil and criminal justice system personnel, keeping the victim fully informed.
- Assists, at the victim’s request, with follow-up advocacy, with court and law enforcement personnel, prosecutors, probation and parole personnel, juvenile authorities and the victim’s attorney.
- Facilitates DV/SV Support Groups and Life Skills as needed and required.
- Provides advocacy and information to the clients using available resources and options. Sets a weekly goal plan as determined by the client.
- Seeks out relevant resources and contact persons in the community.
- Acts as liaison between the shelter program and other community resources, such as the Housing Authority, health care professionals, counselors, child care providers, educators and social services.
- Provides weekly progress reports for staff and alerts Program Director about issues of concern.
- Provides in-service training for staff and volunteers and keeps them apprised of legal issues, changes and developments in court procedures.
- Completes an advocacy report for each victim and maintains court advocacy statistics.
- Provides hospital advocacy for survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault
- Answers hotline calls and documents each in a timely manner.
- Promotes positive resident interaction, offers conflict resolution during disagreements and educates resident about positive communication.
- Provides shelter support as needed and required including intakes/exits, answering hotline calls, safety planning, and orientation. Documents activities and calls in database in accurate and timely manner
- Is knowledgeable and able to implement language services for limited English Proficiency or deaf/hard of hearing
- Maintains safety and security of premises securing doors, monitoring cameras, calling 911 in emergencies or following all protocol for safety and security; Implements any emergency procedures when necessary
- All other duties as assigned including those listed below o Liaison w/MOCSA for sexual assault advocacy o Maintains/submits hospital response calendar

Pay: $18.00 - $22.00 per hour
