JOB SUMMARY
The Maintenance/Custodial Assistant (FT) assists with maintenance and custodial duties in accordance with Hope Ministries’ Core Values, Statement of Faith, and Mission Statement.
In addition, he/she shall observe and identify areas where more substantial building or equipment repairs may be needed, and shall notify the Facilities Manager as appropriate.
The Maintenance/Custodial Assistant will assist with cleaning duties (including, but not limited to, cleaning floors, shampooing rugs, washing walls and glass, and refuse removal) at the direction of the Facilities Manager.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Work in a spirit of cooperation and mutual assistance with all other staff members of Hope Ministries and its subsidiaries.
- Work as an integral part of a facilities management team:
o Assist in the completion of current and preventive maintenance for Hope Ministries’ buildings, grounds keeping and vehicles.
o As assigned by the Facilities Manager, complete tasks and projects involving small plumbing repair, painting, carpentry, and basic handyman activities.
o Proactively observe and identify areas where more substantial maintenance, or building or equipment repairs, may be needed, and notify the Facilities Manager as appropriate.
o As requested, assist with general facility cleaning duties at the direction of the Facilities Manager. This may include, but is not limited to:
1. Vacuuming, sweeping and mopping of floors and stairs.
2. Strip, seal, finish, and polish floors.
3. Maintain and request supplies through the Facilities Manager.
4. Maintain custodial equipment in a clean, safe operable condition.
o Assist with grounds keeping work and snow removal at the direction of the Facilities Manager.
o Evaluate processes, routes, and duties from a front-line perspective and make recommendations to the Facilities Manager for changes.
o Operate and troubleshoot facility-related technology systems.
- Participate in the spiritual growth and Christian instruction of those whom Hope Ministries serves. This can include (but is not restricted to) personal mentoring, the sharing of Scripture and Biblical encouragement, and praying with program participants. This may be in a structured setting (i.e., a classroom or chapel), or unstructured, with individual clients as the need arises.
- Other duties as assigned by the Facilities Manager.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Spiritual qualifications: Must have a lifestyle that demonstrates moral and ethical adherence to the teachings of the Bible and an expressed desire to minister to those who are poor, needy and homeless.
- Tools: must have experience safely operating a variety of power tools associated with maintenance tasks (i.e., drills, saws, jacks, mowers, snowblowers, etc.), and with a variety of manual tools. Experience operating equipment associated with custodial tasks a plus.
- Experience: Skilled in a variety of minor repair and maintenance tasks, such as plumbing, electrical, painting and carpentry; areas of specialization a plus. Comfortable with relevant technology.
- Must have strong organizational skills and the ability to work independently.
- Physical: must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
- Other: good communication skills, both written and verbal; must have reliable personal transportation.

Work Schedule: 40 hours per week (start and end times to be determined by Facilities Manager); evenings and weekend hours may be required.
