Title: Communications Specialist-Content Writer
Location: Redmond, WA & other Hopelink sites as needed
Work schedule: Hybrid environment, and team required to be on-site at Hopelink’s Redmond Center on Wednesdays, from 9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. In addition, team members may be required to be on-site for in-person work as needed.

The career opportunity:
As Hopelink continues towards a vision of a community free of poverty, the agency seeks a multi-talented copywriter, project manager, and public relations professional to serve as its Communications Specialist. The Communications Specialist will support brand communications through storytelling and editorial production. From crafting news-in-briefs, Press releases, Q&As, feature profiles, to long-form deep dives, this role’s storytelling efforts will provide narrative body to advance the agency’s strategic priorities, cultivate awareness, and deepen audience engagement.
Reporting directly to the Director of Communications, the Communications Specialist-Content Writer will support the development of brand digital and print publications, including newsletters, blogs, internal communications, annual reports, scripts and more.
The role will also support the cultivation of earned media opportunities by supporting public and media relations. If you love journalism and thoughtful mission aligned content writing, this role offers that breadth of communication media.

- Four or more years of work experience in journalism, marketing, communications, copywriting, and/or media relations.
- Relevant education or training; a bachelor's or associate degree in journalism, communications, public relations, marketing, political science, a related field, OR an equivalent combination of work, education, and military experience is preferred.
- Experience in nonprofit or government communications, journalism, public relations, and/or public policy strongly desired.
- Superb writing skills with thoughtful content writing including the ability to pivot tonally for subject matter or target audiences, craft compelling story arcs, and edit scrupulously.
- Demonstrable experience with creating relevant, effective content across a variety of mediums including newsletters, website copy, photo captions, social media, digital and print advertising, presentations, brochures, data reports, and press releases.
Examples of what you will be doing:
- Identify news updates and content opportunities for Hopelink’s various audiences, liaising with the Sr. Community Affairs Manager to collect Community Services updates.
- Partner with the Marketing Manager to support the development of cross-platform editorial calendar.
- Serve as a “reporter” for Hopelink by identifying subject matter experts and storytelling opportunities that support strategic priorities and deepen community relationships.
- Oversee the production of the monthly donor newsletter, partnering with Development staff teams to ideate, collect, organize, and edit content.
- Provide copy editing consultation for Hopelink staff members, using above standards and best practices, in addition to offering audience-, format-, and time-relevant feedback.
- Demonstrate a commitment to factual accuracy, cultural competency, and Trauma-Informed Approach (TIA) across all content. Ensure grammar and accuracy, and that published content meets Hopelink’s brand and style guidelines as well as the agency’s EDI (Equity, Diversity, Inclusion) and TIA standards and practices.
- Create and edit compelling, clear, and relevant written content that strengthens brand narratives and supports strategic priorities; including news-in-briefs, feature profiles, issue deep-dives, Q&As, web copy, internal communications, newsletters, press releases, media alerts, event recaps, and more.
- Oversee the production of the monthly Hopelink Happenings newsletter, partnering with Executive Leadership, EDI & Community Affairs, and internal committees to collect, proof, and publish content.
- Develop and maintain working knowledge of regional media, nonprofit, and government landscapes. Remain attuned to news and events that may intersect with Hopelink’s work and the communities the agency serves.
How you will be compensated: Hopelink is proud to provide meaningful paid time away from work and an affordable, comprehensive benefits package.
- Compensation: $31.55-$33.00 hr. DOE
- Up to 10 paid vacation and sick days annually and 10 paid holidays,
- Plus, up to 7 paid float days available to use immediately; dependent on hire date and hours/week
