They are also responsible for holding Office Managers accountable for daily, weekly, and monthly goals; essentially acting as the "chief financial officer" for the dental practice.
Key Responsibilities:
- Financial Reporting:
- Prepare and analyze monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements including income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow statements.
- Monitor key financial metrics and identify trends impacting practice profitability.
- Generate reports for practice owners and management highlighting financial performance and areas for improvement.
- Budgeting and Forecasting:
- Develop and manage the annual operating budget for the dental practice.
- Create financial forecasts to anticipate future revenue and expenses.
- Track variances from the budget and identify areas for cost control.
- Account Receivable Management:
- Monitor outstanding patient balances and implement strategies to improve collection rates.
- Oversee billing processes and ensure accurate coding for insurance claims
- Account Payable Management:
- Review and approve vendor invoices to ensure accuracy and compliance.
- Manage cash flow by optimizing payment schedules.
- Compliance and Regulatory:
- Ensure adherence to all relevant healthcare regulations and tax laws.
- Coordinate with external auditors for annual financial audits
- Operational Efficiency:
- Analyze practice operations to identify potential cost-saving opportunities.
- Implement systems and procedures to streamline financial processes and ensure they are being followed.
- Strategic Planning:
- Collaborate with the practice owner to develop strategic financial plans for growth and expansion
- Provide financial analysis to support decision-making regarding new services, equipment purchases, and practice acquisitions
Required Skills and Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license preferred
- Experience in healthcare accounting and billing practices
- Strong analytical skills and ability to interpret financial data
- Proficiency in accounting software and financial management systems
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate with dental staff and practice owners
