What are the responsibilities and job description for the Palliative Medical Assistant position at Horizon Hospice & Palliative Care?
The Palliative Medical Assistant will be directly responsible to the Palliative Care Manager. This position will have close contact and collaborate with other members of the palliative team. Total hours a week 24.
- Manage sensitive and highly confidential situations with tact and professionalism. Maintain integrity and confidentiality of any patient files and records.
- Manage phone calls and messages, record in EHR and transmit to team members.
- Medical transcription of ARNP palliative visits including choosing correct CPT codes, ordering Home Health or DME as needed, and tracking to ensure services provided.
- Administrative support of ARNP including prior auths, prescription refills, scheduling, and telehealth support.
- Set up new patient records in EHR, which includes extensive review and summary of prior medical records including medications and diagnoses.
- Update patient charts as new information is received or following clinician visits.
- Manage scans, incoming and outgoing faxes regarding palliative patients.
- Facilitate communication concerning palliative patients by monitoring emails, attending Intake meetings, updating palliative spreadsheet with patient changes, and tracking.
- Other administrative tasks as need to optimize palliative team function
Active Certified Medical Assistant license in the state of Washington.
- Experience working in a medical office and understanding of medical terminology.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Excellent communication with patients and their representatives, physician offices, referral sources, and coworkers.
- Proficiency with EHRs, Outlook email and calendars.
- An ability to manage one’s own time and the time of others to meet defined goals and objectives.
