Overview: Horizon Science Academy Cincinnati is seeking a compassionate and dedicated Special Education Teacher or Intervention Specialist to join our team. The ideal candidate will be committed to providing high-quality, individualized instruction and support to students with diverse learning needs, ensuring that all students have access to a rigorous and inclusive education. Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) for students with disabilities, in collaboration with parents/guardians, general education teachers, and other members of the IEP team.
- Provide direct instruction and support to students with disabilities in accordance with their IEP goals and objectives, using evidence-based instructional strategies and accommodations/modifications as needed.
- Differentiate instruction to meet the individual learning needs of students with disabilities, including those with varying academic abilities, behavioral challenges, and sensory or physical impairments.
- Collaborate with general education teachers and support staff to ensure that students with disabilities are fully included and supported in the general education curriculum and school community.
- Collect and analyze data on student progress and performance, and use data to inform instructional decisions, modify instructional strategies, and adjust IEP goals as needed.
- Monitor and document student progress towards IEP goals, and communicate regularly with parents/guardians and other members of the IEP team about student progress and academic/behavioral concerns.
- Provide consultation and support to general education teachers regarding instructional strategies, accommodations, and behavioral interventions for students with disabilities in the general education classroom.
- Collaborate with school administrators, special education coordinators, and other stakeholders to ensure compliance with state and federal laws/regulations related to special education services and the rights of students with disabilities.
- Participate in professional development opportunities to enhance knowledge and skills related to special education best practices, instructional technologies, and inclusive teaching strategies.
- Perform other duties as assigned by school administrators to support the overall functioning of the school and the success of all students.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Special Education, Education, or a related field required; Master's degree preferred.
- Valid teaching license or certification in Special Education or Intervention Specialist (K-12) from an accredited institution.
- Previous experience working with students with disabilities in a school or educational setting preferred.
- Knowledge of special education laws, regulations, and best practices, including the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) and the development and implementation of IEPs.
- Strong understanding of evidence-based instructional strategies, interventions, and accommodations for students with diverse learning needs.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Commitment to fostering a positive and inclusive school culture that promotes equity, diversity, and the success of all students.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism when working with sensitive student information and collaborating with parents/guardians and other stakeholders.
- Flexibility, adaptability, and a willingness to learn and grow as a professional in the field of special education.
