Equine-Assisted Services and Therapeutic Riding Instructor
Horses of Hope Oregon is a nonprofit equine-assisted services provider in Turner, OR. We are seeking a part-time instructor for our therapeutic riding program. Hours will be weekdays and Saturdays.
Required Skills:
* Skilled at equine handling and safety
* Available weekdays and Saturday
Desirable Skills:
* Experience teaching or instructing individuals with special needs
* Experience instructing horse back riding lessons
Horses of Hope Oregon is a fun, fast-paced work environment best suited for self-motivated individuals who enjoy working with others and with horses. Our instructors are responsible for the safety of our participants, horses and volunteers, as well as developing individualized instructing goals and lesson plans for each participant to ensure they are getting the best possible experience. Instructors are on their feet the majority of their shift often on uneven ground and on trails with varying elevations. Programs run year-round both in cold and hot weather in both the arena and on our five acres of trails.
Hourly Pay: $17.00
Job duties include but are not limited to:
- Establish and maintain current participant goals.
- Develop and update lesson plans using participant goals. Lesson plans updated at a minimum quarterly.
- Provide safe, customized, creative sessions to participants.
- Complete session notes daily to recap participants progress. Notes should reflect lesson activities that work toward participant goals and lesson plans.
- Ensure warm-up and minimum grooming for each horse prior to session.
- Establish and maintain good communication with participant/caregiver/parent, volunteers and other staff.
- Produce quarterly progress reports for participants.
- Work directly with Lead Instructor, Program Manager, and Equine Manager to ensure the best quality program is provided for both participants and horses.
- Attend weekly staff meetings and trainings.
- Participate in organization fundraisers and special programs as requested by the Program Manager or Executive Director.
- Assist with all other barn chores, projects, etc. as needed.
