SCOPE OF POSITION: The Grief Support Specialist will provide compassionate support and guidance to individuals coping with loss. This role will be responsible for facilitating grief support groups and workshops, creating engaging content for the sessions using traditional and holistic approaches.
JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Provide emotional and psychological support to individuals and families experiencing grief in assisting them navigate through the complex emotions while facilitating healing and adjustment to life changes.
- Conduct individual and group counseling sessions for clients while assessing their needs and develop personalized care plans to tailor to their specific situations.
- Monitor clients' progress throughout their grieving process and adjust plans as necessary.
- Collaborate with other professionals and support teams to provide comprehensive support for clients through organization resources and community support.
- Responsible for leading and facilitating grief support groups, workshops, and grief camps in a compassionate and supportive manner.
- Create a safe and nurturing environment for participants to share their experiences and emotions.
- Develop and implement engaging activities and discussions tailored to the needs of group/camp members.
- Design and produce relevant, empathetic, and informative content for support groups and workshops, including handouts, presentations, and resources.
- Continuously evaluate and refine group topics based on participant feedback and emerging trends in grief support.
- Ability to be creative in content creation with the beautiful spaces offered at The Retreat, which align with holistic approaches as well as traditional.
- Work closely with The Retreats leadership team to align with group offerings with organizational goals and community needs.
- Provide regular updates and reports on group attendance, feedback, and overall effectiveness of support services.
- Attend events, community outreach initiatives, and fundraising events as directed.
- Represent The Retreat at Quarters Lake professionally and empathetically at community outreach events and fundraising activities, sharing information about our services and building relationships within the community.
- Attend ongoing training sessions found relevant to best serve the community and enhance skills and knowledge in grief support and related practices.
EDUCATION:
- Bachelors degree in social or behavioral science, psychology, social work, counseling, or a related field
- Masters Degree preferred
WORK EXPERIENCE:
- Previous experience facilitating support groups, particularly in grief and loss preferred.
- Familiarity with Grief counseling theories and practices
SPECIAL SKILLS:
- Expertise in interpersonal relationships.
- Ability to work collaboratively within a team environment and represent The Retreat at a professional level at community events.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Must have strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to connect with individuals in emotional distress.
- Flexibility to work evenings or weekends as needed for group sessions and events if required.
