SUMMARY: Responsible for ensuring compliance while promoting employee satisfaction.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Other duties may be assigned by the General Manager.
Employee Relations: 45%
Managerial: 20%
- Monitor manager administration and distribution of employee disciplinary action to ensure fair procedures are followed among departments
- Assist managers with the implementation of disciplinary procedures
- Ensure proper documentation of employee actions according to hotel standards
- Assist the General Manager and all managers with decisions regarding promotions within and across departments
- Create, implement, and enforce manager and hourly onboarding programs for new hires and newly promoted employees to promote success
- Promote a positive team culture while ensuring our guests’ experience is unique and brings the brand to life
- Create programs to foster a positive work environment for all employees
- Discuss and monitor temporary employee leave
- Conduct exit interviews, when appropriate
- Create an open-door policy for managers and hourly staff members
- Develop organizational workforce planning, succession planning, and performance assessment
- Represent company in Unemployment Insurance benefits, appeals, and hearings
Training: 15%
- Conduct new team member orientation on hotel and company standards, policies, procedures, rules, and team member benefit programs
- Conduct Marriott Autograph Brand Orientation to all employees bi-monthly
- Conduct Marriott Service Excellence twice yearly
- Conduct and ensure all staff members have completed anti-harassment and safety training
- Conduct TIPS training for bartenders and servers of alcohol
- Assist managers with departmental training of employees
Talent Acquisition: 5%
- Develop efficient and cost-effective strategies to recruit, taking into consideration the position type
- Manage the recruitment process including initial assessments, interviews, and offers to ensure the best talent
- Remain up-to-date on recruiting sources to seek active and passive candidates
- Ensure candidates are aware of the essential functions of the position and expectations for the role

Administrative Tasks: 45%
Compliance: 20%
- Educate and train managers on progressive discipline processes in accordance with hotel and company policies to create company-wide uniformity
- Ensure applicable laws and regulations such as EEO, ADA, and FLSA are followed in a timely manner for recruiting and selection processes
- Understand employment laws such as FMLA, FLSA, ADA, EEO, ERISA, etc. and ensure compliance among managers
- Research and investigate all workplace issues to discover facts, identify potential risks to the hotel, and facilitate resolution
- Meet local, state, and federal regulations regarding employee employment verification, file documentation, disciplinary procedures, insurance, and other sensitive information
- Maintain employee confidentiality, when necessary
- Report worker’s compensation incidents
- Work with outside agencies to discuss and determine hotel liability for incidents occurring within the hotel’s boundaries or by staff members while on duty
- Assist with EEOC, Civil Rights, and disputes to recount facts and facilitate resolution
- Update the company handbook when necessary to be in accordance with applicable laws and trends
Employee Satisfaction: 20%
- Administer annual employee engagement survey
- Administer departmental and manager surveys as needed
- Discuss survey results with employees and make recommendations to the General Manager to further employee satisfaction
- Oversee employee satisfaction programs such as anniversary recognition, birthday acknowledgment, manager and hourly employee of the month awards
- Conduct exit interviews
- Create data reports that identify turnover statistics to identify trends
- Create new programs that foster employee satisfaction
- Promote employee satisfaction by conducting all-employee rallies twice yearly
Documentation: 4%
- Work with new hires to complete new hire paperwork for the property
- Oversee maintenance of accurate and up-to-date personnel files and records for all employees
- Oversee proper documentation of doctor notes, key cards, mandatory certificates, I9s, court orders, insurance, worker’s compensation, and employee emergency contact forms
- Oversee documentation of resume submission and applications
Financial: 1%
- Assist in the creation of and work within the Human Resources department budget and control expenses
- Monitor staffing to manage costs and reduce overtime
Guest Services: 10%
- Develop creative ways to inspire and motivate team members to provide guests with a unique experience
- Work with department managers to develop initiatives to reach service standards and drive continuous improvement in the guest experience
- Recommend and implement guest service strategies that engage colleagues to respond to changing guest needs
- Stay current on market trends and local changes that impact guest satisfaction

QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resources or related field
- Ability to read and write in English
- Ability to read and comprehend instructions, short correspondence, and memos
- Ability to write correspondence
- Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and employees
- Must be able to pass a background check
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Master’s Degree in Human Resources and two years of experience in a human resource department. HR certification preferred.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: While performing the duties of this job, the person must be able to remain in a stationary position. The person must be able to constantly operate a computer and telephone to communicate with employees.
WORK SCHEDULE: Work a full-time weekday schedule and on-call as assigned by department Supervisor or Manager.
