Now Hiring: Art Instructors at HOTplate Pottery & Clayworks!

Do you love sharing your creativity and helping others feel confident making art? We’re looking for two amazing humans to join our instructor team at HOTplate Pottery & Clayworks — one to lead adult canvas classes and another to lead kids’ art camps!

We believe that everyone can be an artist, and our instructors play a big part in making art approachable, fun, and meaningful.

Adult Canvas Class Instructor (Part-Time)

Our adult classes are relaxed, social art experiences — a chance for people to unwind and create something cool, even if they haven’t picked up a paintbrush since kindergarten. We're looking for an instructor who is:

  • Outgoing, encouraging, and loves working with beginners
  • Comfortable speaking in front of small groups (typically 5–20 people)
  • Passionate about acrylic painting with a knack for teaching techniques step-by-step
  • Organized and punctual, with solid planning skills
  • Available for 4-hour weekday evening or weekend morning/afternoon sessions, 3-5 times per month

Responsibilities include:

  • Helping design class topics and painting projects
  • Creating and photographing a class sample (2 weeks in advance)
  • Gathering and prepping materials
  • Leading step-by-step painting instruction
  • Providing guidance and encouragement throughout the session
  • Cleaning up the studio and helping with any follow-up (like sealing or adding hangers)

Kids Camp Instructor (Seasonal, June–August)

Our kids' camps are 3-day mini art adventures (morning and afternoon sessions), filled with painting, clay, crafts, and plenty of creativity. We’re looking for someone who:

  • Loves working with children ages 6–12
  • Can keep a class of up to 12 kids engaged, safe, and having fun
  • Has experience teaching or leading groups of kids in art or educational settings
  • Is responsible, organized, and calm under pressure
  • Is available for morning and/or afternoon sessions during June, July, and early August

Camp instructor responsibilities:

  • Planning age-appropriate, engaging art projects in collaboration with our team
  • Leading hands-on instruction and demonstrations
  • Keeping kids on track while encouraging creative freedom
  • Managing setup, cleanup, and prep for each session
  • Helping organize and protect drying projects (clay, glass, canvas, etc.)

Required Qualifications for Instructors

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • 1 years of teaching, public speaking, or instruction experience
  • Ability to stand for extended periods and perform light physical tasks (setup/cleanup)
  • Reliable transportation
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work independently and manage time effectively
  • For Adult Classes: Evening and occasional weekend availability
  • For Kids' Camp: Experience working with children (ages 6–12); Availability weekday mornings and afternoons (June–August); Ability to manage a group of children independently

Preferred Qualifications for Instructors

  • Experience teaching art or leading painting events
  • Experience with acrylic painting techniques, basic clay, and other craft mediums
  • Education background, art background, or coursework in child development, elementary education, art education, or fine arts
  • CPR/First Aid certification (for kids camps)
  • Customer service or hospitality background
  • Familiarity with social or instructional art experiences (e.g., paint & sip)

A Few More Things:

  • You don’t need a formal art degree, but you do need confidence, creativity, and kindness.
  • You’ll wear a HOTplate apron so our guests know who to ask for help.
  • Compensation depends on experience and class type, and may vary based on enrollment.
  • We offer a supportive, community-centered studio atmosphere and lots of flexibility.
  • If you're interested in instructing both types of classes, let us know!
  • We're also looking for studio staff, so additional hours are possible through that as well!
