Description
The Chief Financial Officer is responsible for planning the overall financial strategy for the company, including managing risk, evaluating and implementing internal controls, safeguarding company assets and providing accurate and timely financial statements. This position requires extensive prior experience in all phases of financial reporting and analysis as well as prior experience in risk management, acquisitions and coordination of information systems.
The ideal candidate must be well-versed in all aspects of financial management, ranging from simple accounting to broad investment and banking operations. This individual must be an excellent leader both within the financial arena as well as operationally as the position works closely with the President and Chief Executive Officer to help guide the company toward achieving goals and budgets.
In addition to the attributes noted above, the ideal candidate will need to be experienced in helping the company grow both internally and through acquisitions. The employer desires to grow the company, and the Chief Financial Officer will participate in this goal. Prior experience in the areas of transportation (trucking) and warehouse distribution would be a plus.
Objectives of this role
- Take direct responsibility for all cash management, investment reporting, insurance management, budgeting, and financial reporting.
- Coordinate development of annual operating, capital, and program budgets, as well as reporting for the same.
- Ensure cash flow is compatible with operations by overseeing day-to-day accounting, recording, reporting, and internal-control activities of the organization.
- Develop and implement best practices and tools to ensure a well-controlled yet flexible organization that has strong fiscal management, project coordination, cross-team communications, and workflows.
Responsibilities
- Work with senior managers to efficiently develop budget proposals, provide access to project finance information, and ensure contract/grant compliance and reporting.
- Research revenue opportunities and economic trends, analyze internal operations, and identify areas for cost reduction and process enhancement.
- Perform risk management through analysis of company liabilities and investments and evaluate and manage capital structure and fundraising initiatives.
- Monitor business performance with tracking tools, establish corrective measures as needed, and prepare detailed reports for earnings calls, management team, and rest of company.
- Manage Accounting and Finance personnel and oversee financial IT systems, ensuring compliance with relevant regulatory entities (ex: Financial Accounting Standards Board, Internal Revenue Service and Auditors).
Qualifications
Skills and Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, required.
- Master’s degree with emphasis in Account or Finance, preferred.
- Professional Certification including a CPA license or CMA certification, preferred.
- Fifteen or more years of experience in a financial leadership role, required.
- Experience in Mergers and Acquisitions and Shareholder Relations.
- Experience in transportation (trucking) and warehouse distribution a plus.
- Excellent leadership skills, with steadfast resolve and personal integrity.
- Exceptional verbal, written, and visual communication skills.
- Understanding of advanced accounting, regulatory issues, and tax planning.
- Working knowledge of how to raise and manage capital.
