Position Overview:
The Chief Financial Officer is responsible for the financial well-being of the organization by overseeing the accounting function; safeguarding the assets of the organization; and ensuring compliance with Federal, State, and local laws and regulations and contractual requirements. This position also oversees the Human Resources, administration, and IT functions of the organization.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Oversees all aspects of the organization’s financial management including accounting functions, financial and cash flow management, accounts receivable, accounts payable, banking practices, financial reporting, payroll, and the annual audit process. Monitors all financial transactions including bank statement reconciliation, contracts, investment performance documents, monthly financial statements, and petty cash reconciliation.
- Establishes and maintains an appropriate internal control environment, including systems, processes, policies, and procedures to ensure resources are safeguarded and strategically leveraged to support the organizational mission.
- Oversees and monitors the integrity of the general ledger and management systems to accurately report financial activity.
- Prepares financial analyses and data for the Executive Director, the Executive Team, and the Board of Directors to track and report financial and operational activities.
- Prepares for annual and other fiscal audits. Acts as a liaison with auditors to provide them with materials necessary to complete their audit. Manages relations with external auditors, other financial consultants, and advisors.
- Ensures that all organization activities and operations are carried out in compliance with local, State, and Federal laws and regulations governing business operations and generally accepted accounting principles.
- Responsible for compliance with Feeding America Guidelines and other contractual requirements.
- Participates in the formulation and execution of strategic plans, as well as the structure and processes necessary to manage the organization’s current activities and its projected growth.
- Prepares the annual operating budget. Provides assistance to individual managers in the preparation and maintenance of departmental operational budgets, consolidating these budgets, and reviewing actual performance against budgeted performance.
- Provide data, analysis, and reporting for the grants team.
- Provides oversight and review of inventory processes and systems, and the financial impacts of those processes and procedures.
- Oversee the Human Resource function, including benefits management, maintenance of the Drug-Free Workplace Program, and employee hiring and terminations.
Skills and Qualifications:
- Must be a skilled professional with a strong accounting background, and prior experience managing financial resources.
- Requires a strong working knowledge of accounting systems, financial planning and analysis, and cash and investment management. Experience with non-profit is a plus.
- ERP accounting and inventory system experience required.
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or a related field required, CPA, CMA, or Advanced Degree preferred.
- Ability to work closely with diverse groups of employees required.
- A minimum of 7 years of experience in a senior accounting role, preferably in a non-profit organization.
- Excellent verbal, analytical, organizational, and written skills.
- Proficient knowledge of MS Office and computerized accounting systems.
- Flexibility and the willingness to perform hands-on work required.
Working Conditions:
- Work Environment: On-site and Remote, Flexible
- Work Schedule: Flexible-standard office hours – 8:00 am to 4:30 pm
- Travel Requirements: Minimal travel required.
