Position Overview:
The designer role at House of Flowers Couture Events is critical to the company’s continued success and, as such, reports directly to the owner. We are looking for someone with an exceptional eye for detail and design to create all types of fresh and permanent arrangements. The ideal candidate is equally comfortable consistently following arrangement recipes and creating and thoroughly documenting new recipes as needed. When designers create recipes from scratch, they are also responsible for verifying that the pricing of the final arrangement is correct based on the recipe. Designers are also expected to assume the role of Floral Assistant as needed based on customer volume and scheduling. No customer is left waiting at House of Flowers Couture Events if a team member can help immediately.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Design fresh and permanent arrangements in-store
- Design to exact recipe specifications
- Document new recipes thoroughly
- Verify pricing against all recipes
- Communicate with, and have knowledge of, weddings and events including the facilities in which they’re held
- Maintain coolers with a variety of arrangements
- Rotate products as they age
- Utilize first out flowers before fresher products, reducing waste due to product age
- Keep coolers free of debris and empty buckets
- Maintain stock of standard containers, feature containers, and supplies
- Maintain fresh water in vased arrangements
- Stay ahead of the curve on trends and designs by attending seminars and design training
- Assume the role of Floral Assistant as needed based on customer volume and scheduling
- Greet and offer service to walk-in customers
- Assist in choosing and purchasing product
- Have a strong general knowledge of products in order to answer customers’ questions regarding selection, care, service delivery, pricing and more
- Use the point of sale (POS) terminal and design area terminal as applicable, including delivery notifications
- Be proficient in all types of sales, payment on account, and account lookup functions
- Other functions may be added as deemed necessary
General Requirements:
- Knowledge and appreciation of the many different varieties of fresh flowers
- Knowledge of all aspects of floral design
- Two or more years design experience
- Ability to design according to specifications
- A sense of color and creativity with fresh and silk flowers
- Ability to make decisions, communicate effectively, take direction and work unsupervised
- Ability to stand and place flowers in a container for 8-10 hours per day
- Ability to lift 40 lbs. without assistance
- High school diploma or GED preferred
