SUD COUNSELOR
Position Summary: The SUD counselor is responsible for conducting individual sessions and the development of treatment/ recovery plans. SUD Counselors provide clients with the ability to recover from substance abuse addiction. Recovery groups should utilize MI, RP, CBT TI, PE as well as individual progress notes and documentation. SUD Counselor is also responsible for conducting random drug testing and documentation. SUD Counselor shall provide counseling to clients involved in residential substance use disorder treatment with emphasis on mental health.
Responsibilities:
- Provide intake, screening, assessment (Addictive Severity Index ASI)
- Develop individual treatment/ recovery plan and monitor compliance for assigned clients
- Maintain caseload as a variety of interventions including individual and group counseling, crisis intervention, collateral services, and other relevant sobriety-related services to clients
- Provide appropriate referral information to clients who need additional services beyond inpatient alcohol and drug services
- Provide crisis intervention, referral, advocacy and linkage services for clients and their families
- Provide on-going feedback to referring parties i.e. Courts, Probation, AB109, and Parole Agencies regarding client’s attendance, progress and discharge status
- Maintain client’s case files, both hard copy and computerized (assessment and progress notes). SUD counselor must produce daily billable services under the DMC/ODS
- Perform drug testing urinalysis specimen collections and screening as required
- Provide interaction with clients on a day-to-day basis in individual and/or group counseling, as well as engaging in rehabilitation activities from time-to-time.
Requirements:
- Must be a licensed or certified addiction counselor or working toward becoming certified through one of the State of California Alcohol and Drug Certification recognized certification boards; CAADAC, CCAPP, CAADE, CADTP or similar professional certificate
- Must have a minimum 2 years’ experience working with alcohol and drug related issues/ addiction
- Must possess an in-depth knowledge of substance abuse treatment methodologies and diagnostic techniques, familiarity with San Diego substance abuse services system
- Must have experience working with high risk adult parole/ probation population
- Must be able to work with a culturally diverse population
- Must be computer literate
- Must have knowledge of ASAM criteria and trained on ASAM A,B, & C
- Must be free of parole. Probation for at least two years and pass pre-employment background check and drug screening
- Valid California driver’s license and insurance
- Must be available to work schedules that may include day; evening and weekends to best meet the needs of the population served
Qualifications:
- Three (3) years related experience in AOD services, strong communication skills familiar with safety and program procedures.
- AOD certification or equivalent, BA in related area preferred.
- Excellent written and verbal skills, basic computer and internet skills.
- Strong ability to be able to work in a multi-task workplace environment and possess the abilities to interact with a multicultural staff as a positive and supportive team player.
