Job Summary:
We are looking for a skilled and motivated Lathe Operator to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for setting up, operating, and maintaining lathe machines to produce precision parts based on engineering specifications. This position requires expertise in machining processes, a keen eye for detail, and the ability to produce parts with tight tolerances and high-quality standards. The operator will also troubleshoot machine issues, perform routine maintenance, and work to ensure the highest safety and efficiency standards are met.

Key Responsibilities:
* Set-Up & Operation:

  • Set up and operate manual or CNC lathe machines to machine metal and other materials into precise parts.
  • Load and secure workpieces, tools, and fixtures, ensuring accurate alignment and positioning.
  • Select and install appropriate cutting tools, chucks, and collets according to part specifications.
  • Perform test runs and adjust settings to ensure parts meet precise dimensional requirements.

* Quality Control & Inspection:

  • Inspect finished parts during and after machining for conformance to specifications using micrometers, calipers, and other precision instruments.
  • Adjust machine settings such as speed, feed rates, and tool positioning to achieve desired quality and surface finish.
  • Document and report part defects, machine issues, and maintain inspection records.

* Machine Maintenance & Troubleshooting:

  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to machine malfunctions, tool wear, or inconsistencies in part quality.
  • Perform regular maintenance on machines, including cleaning, lubricating, and replacing parts when needed.
  • Ensure proper functioning of coolant systems, tool changers, and other machine components.

* Safety & Cleanliness:

  • Follow all safety protocols, including wearing appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and adhering to machine safety standards.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area, ensuring that all tools and materials are safely stored and accessible.
  • Ensure all safety guidelines are followed to prevent accidents or injuries in the work environment.

* Continuous Improvement:

  • Collaborate with engineering and production teams to identify opportunities for process improvement and to optimize machine performance.
  • Suggest improvements for tooling, work holding, and machine operation to enhance overall productivity.
  • Participate in training programs and stay updated on industry best practices and new technologies in machining.

Qualifications & Skills:
Experience & Education:

  • Previous experience operating lathe machines, preferably in a manufacturing or industrial environment.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; technical certification or vocational training in machining is a plus.

Skills & Abilities:

  • Strong knowledge of lathe machine operation, including manual and CNC machines.
  • Skilled in using precision measuring tools, such as micrometers, calipers, and depth gauges.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and technical specifications.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and perform basic machine repairs and maintenance.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively with a team.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift and move heavy materials, tools, and workpieces as required.
  • Comfortable working in a manufacturing environment, exposed to noise, dust, and metal shavings.
  • Ability to stand, bend, and work for extended periods in a physically demanding role.

Compensation and Benefits:

  • $20-$30 an hour (based on experience)
