What will I be doing?
ü Manage the Community Resilience group of the Community and Environmental Planning Department, with practice areas in public engagement, urban planning, disaster resilience, solid waste management, conservation/forestry, housing, and multimodal transportation planning.
ü Manage and current staff of 8 planners and professionals and coordinate strongly with other department and agency teams on multidisciplinary efforts.
ü Actively participate in and provide direct oversight on all program efforts and outreach activities for your group.
ü Maintain and further develop relationships with internal and external grantors, clients, and resources to maintain and expand team service levels and resources.
ü Oversee all grant development, budget development, and financial planning for your group, and coordinate with Department staff on grant and financial tracking for your team and for the broader Department budget.
ü Work closely with internal teams, including finance, program staff, and senior leadership, to gather (or oversee staff efforts to gather) the necessary information and ensure that all grant proposals, program efforts, and reports accurately reflect the organization’s needs and achievements.
ü Continuously research and identify new program and grant opportunities that align with the organization’s mission and strategic goals.
ü Contribute to the development and implementation of a comprehensive Department Strategic Plan.
Key Qualifications
ü A minimum of 5 years of experience in program management in a field related to the practice areas of your group.
ü A successful track record of at least three years in staff management and program development.
ü Strong communication and collaboration skills to work effectively with internal teams and external stakeholders and demonstrated experience working with local governments.
ü Experience in managing multiple projects simultaneously, with the ability to meet deadlines and manage time and staff resources effectively.
ü Proficiency in using standard databases and office applications such as Microsoft Office.
Do you have…
ü Bachelor’s degree in an applicable academic discipline or related field of study
ü 5 years of experience working with local government, nonprofit programs, schools or in job related duties
Preferred Qualifications
ü A Master’s degree in a field related to your group’s practice areas is preferred.
ü Experience with managing multiple staff members and/or contractors in large scale projects.
ü Familiarity with the regulatory and specific funding landscape relevant to the group’s mission (e.g., housing, urban planning, multimodal transportation planning, disaster resilience, solid waste management, etc.).
ü Experience in funding development with a proven track record in successful grant proposals.
ü Experience with large disaster resilience funding programs (e.g., funding programs from FEMA, HUD, TDEM, EPA, et al.).
ü Experience in preparing and managing budgets.
ü Established relationships with local, regional, or national clients or funders.
ü Established connections in the Houston-Galveston region is preferred.
