What are the responsibilities and job description for the Master Carpenter (300RF11) position at Houston Zoo?
Prepares and coordinates the development, construction, repair, and maintenance of structures composed of wood, wood-substitute materials, Lexan, concrete, steel, mesh and other materials while adhering to required codes, ordinances and specifications. Works alongside team members daily to ensure quality. Maintain a valid Texas driver’s license and comply with the policy on driving.

Job Duties and Responsibilities
Coordinates and performs general carpentry activities related to regular assigned job duties and special projects, such as the design, construction, installation, repair and renovation of furnishings, cabinetry, doors, windows, containers, crates, flooring, building additions, panels, glass, etc.
Reviews and implements work orders.
Inspects work sites to determine materials, equipment, and estimated costs for projects.
Measures and calculates projects to ensure the accuracy of design.
Maintains clean and safe work environment.
Assists with training staff in standard work procedures and requirements.
Manages multiple projects at one time and must prioritize appropriately.
Communicates with other departments on department work plans.
Provides and ensure world-class service is being delivered to Zoo guests.
Assists with ordering supplies, parts, chemicals, and other materials and maintains the area within budget.
Assists with maintaining various records and reports to monitor and track work activities.
Maintains proper Zoo uniform with name tags and work badges, at all times.
Assists with special events to ensure all events are a success.
Maintains good attention to detail for exterior and interior projects at a Master carpentry skill level.
Maintains the appropriate use of equipment and PPE.
Contributes to saving animals in the wild through reduction of waste, water, and energy use and inspiring guests and staff to take wildlife-protecting actions
Performs other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience
High School / G.E.D. diploma and 5 years of commercial experience in highly skilled carpentry level
Some proficiency in all trades, including electrical wiring, masonry, finish carpentry and painting experience.
