Greenhouse Maintenance Technician

Overview
The Greenhouse Maintenance Technician is responsible for ensuring the efficient operation and maintenance of all greenhouse systems, including irrigation, HVAC, lighting, and environmental controls. This role involves performing routine inspections, troubleshooting, and repairs to maintain optimal growing conditions and equipment functionality. The technician will work closely with the greenhouse team to minimize downtime, improve operational efficiency, and ensure compliance with safety and environmental regulations.

Responsibilities

1. Performs regular inspections, maintenance, and repairs on greenhouse systems, including irrigation, HVAC, lighting, and environmental control systems.

2. Troubleshoots and resolves issues related to electrical, plumbing, mechanical, and climate control systems to ensure optimal growing conditions.

3. Ensures all greenhouse equipment is operating efficiently and safely to minimize downtime and production disruptions

4. Develops and implements a preventative maintenance schedule for all greenhouse equipment to extend the life of systems and reduce emergency repairs.

5. Performs routine checks and maintenance tasks, such as cleaning filters, checking wiring, and inspecting irrigation lines.

6. Assists in the installation and setup of new greenhouse equipment or systems.

7. Recommends and implements upgrades to existing systems to improve efficiency, reduce energy consumption, and enhance overall functionality.

8. Maintains inventory of maintenance supplies and parts, ensuring that necessary tools and materials are available when needed.

9. Orders replacement parts as required and keep accurate records of inventory levels and usage.

10. Adheres to all safety regulations, including OSHA guidelines, to maintain a safe working environment.

11. Ensures compliance with environmental regulations, ensuring proper handling of hazardous materials, waste disposal, and chemical safety.

12. Reports any safety hazards or equipment malfunctions that could pose a risk to staff or crops.

13. Maintains accurate records of all maintenance activities, repairs, and inspections.

14. Uses maintenance management software (CMMS) to track work orders, maintenance schedules, and system performance.

15. Provides regular reports to management regarding equipment status, repairs, and upcoming maintenance needs

16. Works closely with greenhouse staff to understand operational needs and ensures systems are functioning to support plant health and productivity.

17. Communicates effectively with management to prioritize urgent repairs and projects.

18. Follows Food Safety rules and regulations.

Qualifications

1. High School Diploma or GED

2. Associate’s Degree in Horticulture, Agricultural Engineering, Industrial Maintenance, or a related field (preferred)

3. Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered

4. Certifications in HVAC, electrical systems, or plumbing (preferred)

5. Forklift Certification (preferred)

6. Pesticide Applicator License (preferred, depending on local regulations)

7. Minimum of 2-3 years of experience in maintenance or facilities management, preferably in a greenhouse, agricultural, or industrial environment (required)

8. Valid Drivers License

9. Must be eligible to work in the United States

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $18.00 - $25.00 per hour

Expected hours: 40 – 60 per week
