Job Summary :

The Corrosion Technician will be responsible for all facets of field executed corrosion prevention duties including cathodic protection, internal corrosion control, atmospheric corrosion control, protective coating and lining, materials selection, and design / project support.

Duties / Responsibilities :

  • Ensuring the integrity of the pipeline system through standard industry utilized corrosion prevention techniques utilized by writing associated action plans, performing, and documenting prove-up inspection, and writing closure reports.
  • Ensuring compliance with all Company policies and / or procedures associated with DOT 192 & 195 regulation pipeline integrity / corrosion control, including Operator Qualification requirements and lead efforts to design and implement effective long-term cathodic protection systems and document all related work associated with compliance.
  • Cathodic protection includes gathering annual pipe-to-soil surveys, gathering rectifier readings, and troubleshooting rectifier units, performing interference testing, and recommending, designing overseeing installation, and performing as build drawing for needed cathodic facilities.
  • Design, install, operate, and maintain cathodic protection facilities, power lines, galvanic anodes, and internal corrosion facilities.
  • Monitor the condition of the pipeline through pipe-to-soil potentials, visual inspection, examination of coupons, and data from in-line tools.
  • Monitor electrical isolation and identify points of electrical shorts and perform stray current interference tests and correcting identified interference issue.
  • Atmospheric corrosion duties include performing coating evaluations and providing technical assistance to operations. Internal corrosion responsibilities include evaluating, developing and monitoring the internal corrosion control program for single, multiphase gas pipeline and liquid lines and oversee mitigation measures.
  • Performing pipeline coating evaluations test and inspecting coating applications.
  • Required Skills / Abilities :

  • Ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Expertise in diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining several types of mechanical equipment and machinery (pipelines, terminals, etc.).
  • Experience in developing and executing preventative maintenance schedules to ensure equipment reliability.
  • Excellent analytical and critical thinking skills.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills.
  • In-depth knowledge of safety protocols and procedures related to mechanical maintenance.
  • High mindfulness to ensure accuracy.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Computer skills including spreadsheet and word processing applications preferred.
  • Work well with others and be able to perform tasks independently.
  • Education and Experience :

  • High school diploma or GED or equivalent, is required.
  • Minimum 1 year of corrosion control related experience.
  • Minimum 1 year of competent knowledge of pipeline operations and characteristics of products transported by pipeline.
  • Ability to complete work assignments with minimal supervision in an acceptable time frame.
  • Proficient with computer skills (MS office, company software, and technical systems).
  • Understand and operate all corrosion related instrumentation.
  • Understand DOT 192 & 195 regulations.
  • Routinely work holidays and weekend that occur during the shift, subject to call-out or as needed.
  • Ability to read maps and basic math skills.
  • Certification :

  • A.C.E Corrosion Technician license preferred.
  • Travel :

    Travel required locally or long-distance up to 20% of the time for work-related meetings and functions.

    Equipment :

    Computer, computer software programs and peripherals, resource materials and equipment, copier, fax, and other equipment applicable to the position.

    Mental and Physical Demands :

    Regularly required to walk, stand, crawl, climb stairs and bend; use hands to handle or feel; reach with hands and arms over shoulder height; and talk or hear. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. Frequent pushing, pulling, stooping, kneeling, bending, balance, depth perception, repetitive arm / hand movements, eye-hand-foot coordination, manual dexterity (eye / hand coordination) finger dexterity, vision acuity (far / near) and hearing acuity. May be required to climb ladders and / or stairs more than 50 ft. and work in confined spaces. Occasional lifting up to 50 lbs. maximum with frequent lifting and / or carrying of objects weighing up to 25 lbs.

    May be required to spend 50% or greater of time in an outdoor setting. Will be required to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).

    Maintain emotional control under stress, work with interruptions and deadlines.

    May work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.

    Environmental Factors :

    May be exposed to biological hazards (communicable diseases, bacteria, insects, mold, fungi, etc.). Will work in or around industrial and construction settings, which may include working with chemicals, hazardous products, processes, and materials. Exposure to loud machinery, moving mechanical parts and adverse weather conditions. Gaseous risk exposure and occasional dangerous driving conditions. Will work with petroleum products under high pressure and in extreme temperatures, both hot and cold.
