Job Summary

Serves as the lead faculty member for the BBA-Finance degree/major in the School of Business.  Does so in accordance with the HPU mission statement, the School of Business purpose statement, the School of Business outcomes assessment plan, and other relevant documents.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following.

  1. Develops, instructs, and administers primarily finance and introductory economics courses, with other courses within the School of Business included as appropriate, resulting in a typical teaching load of 24 credit hours over the academic year.  This load may include both on ground and online courses as well as both undergraduate and MBA courses
  2. Advises primarily finance majors, with other business majors included as appropriate
  3. Holds a minimum of 7 scheduled office hours per week with additional hours arranged as needed
  4. Serves on HPU and/or School of Business committees as needed
  5. Maintains a program of ongoing professional development.  Ideally, this program includes systematic ongoing efforts to, where appropriate, understand and teach business from a distinctly biblical perspective
  6. Works effectively with other HPU and School of Business personnel
  7. Working in an environment with constrained resources is able to improvise, overcome, and adapt

Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each of the Essential Duties listed above satisfactorily.   1. Education and/or Experience – Master's degree or equivalent from an accredited University or four to ten years of directly related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  2. Language Skills - Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents in English, ability to respond to inquiries or complaints from regulatory agencies or members of the community, ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conform to a prescribed style and format, ability to present information to University students, trustees, other employees and the public effectively
  3. Mathematical Skills - Ability to apply advanced mathematical concepts such as exponents, logarithms, quadratic equations and permutations effectively, ability to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as frequency distribution, determination of test reliability and validity, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, sampling theory, and factor analysis effectively
  4. Reasoning Ability - Ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems in English, ability to deal with nonverbal symbolism (formulas, scientific equations, graphs, musical notes, etc.,) in its most difficult phases, ability to deal with a variety of abstract and concrete variables
  5. Computer Skills - To perform this job successfully, an individual should have an excellent working knowledge of Web Browsers; Microsoft Suite Software and Blackboard.  
  6. Other Requirements – Must have completed at least 18 graduate hours in marketing and any other business area/discipline within which the applicant will teach
