Job Summary
Conducts university courses for undergraduate students by instructing, assessing, and coaching students. Faculty strives to fulfill the University's mission statement and the education department's mission of preparing teachers to serve as Christian role models in both public and private schools. Faculty will teach 24-27 semester hours per year, serve as an academic advisor, and will maintain appropriate office hours.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. The Dean of the School of Education may assign other duties.
- Teaches undergraduate literacy-related courses and other teacher preparation courses in face-to-face format, but could include hybrid, and online
- Prepares teacher education students to successfully pass the Texas Examination of Educator Standards (TExES) exams including the Science of Reading (STR) exam
- Models excellent pedagogical strategies and techniques as well as effective formative and summative assessments
- Energetic, student-centered, creative, effective mentor for students
- Competent with evolving educational technology as well as Brightspace (LMS)
- Effective in designing, organizing, implementing, and modifying relevant and appropriate lesson plans Adept at differentiating instruction for diverse learners
- Excellent interpersonal skills for relating to students and collaborating with local educators to facilitate K-12 field-based learning experiences
- Team player who collaborates with faculty and participates in departmental and university activities.
- Serves as Field Supervisor for clinical teachers as needed
- Emulates Christian values and integrates Christian faith in their teaching
- Serves as an academic advisor for education certification students to ensure successful completion of degree requirements
- Incorporates Pedagogy and Professional Responsibilities (PPR), content, and other required standards in course development
- Serves on campus committees as needed

Qualifications

- Education and Experience – Doctoral degree strongly preferred, master's degree required from an accredited university in literacy or closely related field. Texas Teacher Certification required; individuals holding the Texas Reading Specialists certification strongly preferred. Experience teaching in Texas public K-12 schools required
- Language Skills - Ability to read, analyze, and interpret the most complex documents in English, ability to respond effectively to the most sensitive inquiries or complaints, ability to write speeches and articles using original or innovative techniques or style, ability to make effective and persuasive speeches and presentations on controversial or complex topics to University students, trustees, other employees and the public
- Math Skills - Ability to work effectively with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry, ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations

- License – Must maintain a current valid Texas teacher certification and must maintain a current Texas driver's license to drive any vehicle, including personal vehicles, on University business
