Material Handler I, Shipping
Job Summary
A Material Handler organizes and loads merchandise according to safety standards. Other aspects include recording all movement of inventory, material, and supplies, and ensuring that the warehouse is organized and well-maintained to create an efficient work environment.
Duties and Responsibilities
Essential Functions:
- Accurately pull and pack all orders and inventory.
- Verify all orders to ensure the correct product is sent to internal and external customers and ensure it matches customers’ orders.
- Notify the shipping supervisor and other personnel of shipping problems.
- Must be able to problem solve and create techniques to benefit the shipping department.
- Properly recycle all cardboard and place it in proper containers.
- Keep shipping facilities clean and free of clutter.
- Communicate with the supervisor for the production of needed materials.
- Complete other tasks as assigned.
- Safely load and unload all incoming and outgoing material and products.
- Understand and accurately follow the “FIFO (First in First Out) inventory method.
Responsibilities:
- Fully understand the jobs of the Picker, Wrapper, and Pallet Stacker.
- Carry out assigned duties while observing all safety regulations.
Qualifications:
- Experience – None, will train on the job.
- Education – High School diploma or GED.
- Complexity of duties – Attention to detail, use of good judgement.
- Supervision received – Direct oversight from the shipping supervisor.
- Working conditions – Extreme noise, heat, cold, dusty environment. Mostly indoors.
- Mental and physical demands – Must have excellent attention to detail, good hand-eye coordination, and vision. Be able to lift up to 50 lbs. The job requires some squatting, kneeling, and bending for long periods of time. Sitting, standing, climbing, lifting, pulling, pushing, carrying, reaching, speaking, listening, motor coordination skills, coordination of eyes, hands, and feet.
