POSITION SUMMARY

This is a senior-level, full-time position located in our Fairview Heights, IL administrative offices. This position reports directly to the President and Chief Executive Officer and will have direct responsibility for fundraising as well as managing the development team with four additional full-time members, including a Database Research Coordinator, Volunteer and Events Coordinator, Grant Writer, and Capital Campaign Coordinator. The Director of Philanthropy will be responsible to oversee and provide strategy and direction for every aspect of the organization's fund development activity, including major gifts, planned giving, corporate and foundation grants, annual giving, fundraising special events, and Capital Campaign.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Develops the overall fund development strategy and the plan that raises the visibility of Hoyleton with all constituencies and promotes a positive image of the agency and the services it provides;
  2. Develops a major gift program for the agency: works with the President and CEO to assign responsibility for cultivation and solicitation of donors; prepares strategy and materials to support these activities; develops and implements moves management program for major gift prospects and donors and personally manages a portfolio of major donors.
  3. Serves as key development liaison to the Board of Directors and the Development Committee, providing direction and support for individual board members' fundraising activities:
  4. Initiates and manages a Planned Giving Program: develops marketing strategy for the program including but not limited to identifying and prioritizing prospects; consults with or refers prospects to planned giving expert;
  5. Oversee data management and reporting;
  6. Develops annual development budgets, tracks financial performance, prepares the necessary interim financial reports a fundraising projections, and oversees department expenditures.
  7. Develops and administers policies and procedures related to development and fundraising;
  8. Collaborates with other key departments at Hoyleton (program, communications) as appropriate;
  9. Participates in Community Outreach initiatives as needed.
  10. Works closely with CEO, Board of Directors, and Capital Campaign Committee to design and implement strategies that enhance individuals, groups and organizations engagement in Capital Campaign.
  11. Other duties as assigned.

SKILLS and ABILITIES

  1. Must have an understanding of and capacity to work with individuals of diverse racial, ethnic, religious and socioeconomic backgrounds;
  2. Excellent proficiency with the use of Raiser's Edge, Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint);
  3. Excellent writing and presentation skills;
  4. Comfortable in a team-first environment; encourage others
  5. Organized and can manage multiple projects at once;
  6. DCFS/CANTS Clearance

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

  1. Bachelor's degree in Business, Management, Marketing, or Strategic Communications required; MBA or MA in nonprofit management desired;
  2. Five to eight years of nonprofit fund development experience required

CARE & TCI

One of the essential job functions of any position within the agency is to align your performance with our overarching philosophy of CARE. All decisions, actions, communication, and performance should align with the six CARE principles (Developmentally Focused, Family Involved, Relationship Based, Ecologically Oriented, Competence Centered, and Trauma Informed). Not only must you complete the CARE training with satisfactory participation, but you must then put that training into practice in your everyday work.

Every employee must also pass TCI training with a satisfactory grade in written and/or physical testing. All employees must remain current on refresher training that is provided monthly at all locations. You will be tested every 6 months on the physical portion, if applicable to your position. You will be tested annually on the written portion regardless of your position. If you are not current on your TCI refresher training every six months, you will be required to retake the full course. If you do not pass either test, you may be required to retake the full course. Not only must you complete the TCI training with satisfactory participation, but you must then put that training into practice in your everyday work.
