POSITION SUMMARY

This full-time position is based in Hoyleton, IL, with some travel to other program sites in St. Clair County.


The Manager of Vocational and Recreational services will build and lead a multi-site team creating and overseeing a master schedule of therapeutic activities, recreational programming, and activities designed to promote life skills development. This position includes developing strong relationships with community program partners to offer opportunities for community skill-building. The Manager is responsible for planning, coordinating, and overseeing a team-based approach, working in conjunction with Residential and Transitional Living Program managers to create high-quality programming for youth with developmental disabilities healing from complex trauma.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Interviews, selects, supervises, and evaluates the performance of Supervisors and Activity Specialists. Provide weekly supervision and complete mid-year and annual performance reviews with direct reports.
  • Function as a backup and working supervisor or schedule an alternative backup as needed to ensure programs are delivered as planned.
  • Build and maintain professional relationships with community, public, private, and voluntary agencies to identify opportunities for clients to practice and build skills in the community.
  • Lead, coordinate, and perform planning and scheduling for multiple recreation program services, new programs, events, and other activities and workshops that develop life skills.
  • Practice programming in accordance with CARE principles and use TCI methods to anticipate, de-escalate, and manage challenging behaviors consistent with each youth's Individual Crisis Intervention Plan.
  • Responsible for engaging youth in individual and group therapeutic interventions consistent with youths' Individual Treatment Plans.
  • Records Medicaid billable therapeutic interventions in accordance with Medicaid Rule 140 daily.
  • Develop and review standard operating procedures for vocational and recreational programs.
  • Responsible for researching and identifying engaging and fun activities and maximizing participation and successful implementation, including positive transitions into and out of activities through careful planning and attention to detail.
  • Coordinates and arranges recreational activities with the input of youth and milieu staff, coordinates, coaches, and facilitates youth participation in IIAA and Special Olympics.
  • Skill in forward thinking and ability to identify problems or issues and develop effective solutions, resolve complex problems, and gain cooperation among interested groups.
  • Develop collegial and productive working relationships with co-workers and train milieu staff to implement planned activities.
  • Monitors the use and wear of recreational equipment and requests repair, replacement, or new equipment to ensure safety and high-quality programming.
  • Responsible for adhering to the department budget and advising the Residential Director regularly regarding the status of budgets and accounts. Also responsible for the purchase of equipment and supplies and for managing expenditures aligned to grant budgets in accordance with agency policy.
  • As a mandated reporter of child abuse/neglect, reports alleged incidents of child abuse or neglect that, in their professional capacity, he/she reasonably suspects to have occurred.
  • Participates in performance appraisal, training, and professional development activities.
  • Participates in agency, program, and team meetings and staffings as needed or required.
  • Ensures that Activity Therapy staff performance standards are upheld and the agency personnel policies and practices are followed.
  • Maintain a knowledge and understanding of agency policies and procedures.
  • Other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor's degree in human services, education or another related field required. Work experience is sufficient to have acquired and developed the knowledge, skill, and ability to perform the functions of the position.
  • Proficient in the use of Office 365 programs and associated apps such as Microsoft Teams; experience with Salesforce preferred
  • Must demonstrate empathy and an understanding of the impact of trauma on youth.
  • Must demonstrate an ability to engage youth and lead group activities positively.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Must be at least 21 years of age
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Illinois driver's license
  • Must possess and maintain proof of automobile insurance
  • Ability to receive a DCFS/CANTS Clearance.

CARE & TCI

One of the essential functions of any position within the agency is to align your performance with our overarching philosophy of CARE (Children and Residential Experiences). All decisions, actions, communication, and performance should align with the six CARE principles (Developmentally Focused, Family Involved, Relationship Based, Ecologically Oriented, Competence Centered, and Trauma Informed). You must complete the CARE training with satisfactory participation and demonstrate application by practicing activities with fidelity to that model.

Every employee must also pass TCI (Therapeutic Crisis Intervention) training with a satisfactory grade in written and/or physical testing. All employees must remain current on refresher training that is provided monthly at all locations. If you do not pass either test, you may be required to retake the full course. In addition to completing the initial TCI training with satisfactory participation you will be required to attend refresher training and scheduled tests to evidence the ability to practice TCI with fidelity to the model.
