What are the responsibilities and job description for the Production Supervisor position at HOYT ARCHERY INC?
Essential Functions:
Helps develop and supports the company’s strategy.
Supports organizational initiatives.
Provides leadership and management for department staff.
Responsible for overall production supervision of the department:
- Manages employee merit sheets daily
- Populates performance reviews, through merit sheet completion and for manager approval
- Manages all time sheets for production department, keeping all time sheets up to date
- First point of contact for floor employees regarding Sick, vacation, etc.
- Provides training to “Standard Work” and “SOPs” for department
- Writes standard work update requests, and some new standard work documents
- Cross-trained on all department tasks
- Ensure departments lines have necessary supplies at the beginning and throughout the shift
- Oversee cleanup and confirm shop is ready for next shift
- Ensures all Health & Safety practices and policies are followed
- Communicate and record safety incidents or injuries per OSHA regulations
- Monitors daily schedule, reporting inaccuracies or concerns to manager
- Ensures all product produced meets all Quality expectations
- Monitor approved and established production processes for accurate documentation, appropriate controls and ensure they are followed to achieve quality at the source
- Writes system feedback as appropriate
- Update Performance Boards daily (where applicable)
- Provide daily scrap report to MRB
- Update and submit daily department KPI metrics – Pass Throughs, Scrap, First-Pass Yield, Etc.
- Perform or ensure completion of all operator PMs, and submit operator PM paperwork to maintenance
- Strategize and execute “in the moment” product flow and distribution of resources
- Strategize, initiate, and help with equipment change-overs to suit production flow need
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- l Basic computer skills, with working knowledge of spreadsheets.
- l Understanding of LEAN manufacturing principles and practices
- l Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- l Problem solving, decision-making and organizational skills.
Decision Making and Problem Solving:
- The Production Supervisor makes decisions that relate directly to department issues, such as staffing, personnel conflicts, coaching, and discipline. In addition, this individual makes decisions and solves problems regarding quality, safety; process change implementation and department flow (work schedules to meet production/schedule) and provides ideas for product improvement.
- Interaction with Others:
This job requires interacting with various people, including other production Supervisors, leads, maintenance, planning, quality, and human resources employees.
- Supervisory and Leadership Responsibilities:
The Production Supervisor supervises all employees in the department, with assistance of Production Manager
- Physical environment – The position involves working in a manufacturing area where there is potential exposure to varying temperature and noise levels, dust, and other industrial hazards and occasionally in an office environment.
- Mental pressure – Daily quality and variance issues, personnel conflicts, staffing, or lack thereof, daily scheduling of resources (workforce and equipment), accidents and emergencies, materials requirements, and equipment failures all contribute to a stressful environment. Must be able to react quickly to avoid serious problems. There are frequent deadlines that must be met requiring the individual to work at a fast pace.
