Job Summary:

The Packaging Engineering Manager plans and directs packaging activities within the organization, ensuring all initiatives and processes are in conformance with organization's established policies and procedures. The Packaging Engineering Manager assists the Director in being the SME on Packaging Material decisions.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Assist multiple facilities in project management for the development of new and revised packaging materials (bottles, caps, labels, corrugated, cartons, etc.).
• Supports the Project Engineering team planning of package qualifications on new equipment.
• Project administration - Participate in the initial Project development, roles and responsibilities, goal setting, cost review, work breakdown structure and resources plan.
• Manage Package Engineering projects within the established Management of Change process.
• Regulatory and environmental requirements - Provide guidance and advice to local implementation teams and business units. Assist the Director with implementation of a sustainability initiatives for HP Hood and its customers.
• Assist in the standardization of the following:
  • Develop and implement a consistent and standardized process for development of Package Engineering projects.
  • Create and maintain packaging standards and test methods for Package Engineering.
  • Manage Palletization development standards using TOPPS for the business and implement it across all Aseptic/ESL plants
• Responsible for partnering with Operations, Quality, Sales Marketing and Strategic Sourcing to complete projects in a timely manner and to drive efficiency projects across all product lines.

Education and Experience:

• Requires a bachelor's degree and 5-10 years of experience in a packaging role.
• Must possess a deep understanding of the project management/engineering processes in the food and beverage industry. Experience in Medical Device and Pharma may be considered.
• Strong background in bottles/closures is highly desired.
• In depth knowledge of dairy production, including conventional, extended shelf-life, aseptic, cultured and frozen is desired.
• CPP, PMP or CAPM certification is desired.

Skills and Competencies:

• In depth knowledge of manufacturing process of packaging materials as well as through understanding of packaging and labeling equipment.
• Strong working knowledge of AutoCAD and MS Project
• Ability to supervise contractors/suppliers and employees who design and develop projects, systems and processes.
• Responsible for ensuring the technical accuracy of work and the reliability of methods.
• Knowledge of engineering administrative and management principles.

• Adhere to all safety and environmental protocols, procedures and training. Maintain a safe work environment at all times and immediately report and take appropriate action to correct safety concerns.
• Comply with all Good Manufacturing Practices, including GMP dress code standards

SQF Requirements/Responsibilities

• Adhere to all food safety and food quality requirements as well as the regulatory authorities with jurisdiction over our products and processes.
• Maintain food safety and food quality through completing job tasks and maintaining the work area in a sanitary manner.
• Report food safety problems to personnel with authority to initiate action.

Environmental Concerns:

• May be subject to exposure to ingredients used in the manufacture of food products including allergens.
• May be subject to exposure to chemicals involved in the manufacture and sanitation of a food processing facility.
