Job Summary:
The Director of Pharmacy will lead the strategic and operational management of our infusion-focused specialty pharmacy services. This role requires expertise in infusion therapy, specialty pharmacy operations, and patient care coordination. The Director will manage clinical and operational teams, ensure regulatory compliance, and build partnerships with healthcare providers, payers, and manufacturers to deliver high-quality infusion services.
Key Responsibilities:
* Oversee all aspects of the infusion pharmacy program, including medication preparation, dispensing, and patient care coordination.
* Develop and execute strategies to optimize infusion services, improve patient outcomes, and expand program capabilities.
* Ensure compliance with state and federal regulations, sterile compounding standards (e.g., USP <797>), and accreditation requirements (e.g., URAC, ACHC).
* Collaborate with physicians, nurses, and case managers to support seamless delivery of infusion therapies in home or clinic settings.
* Manage pharmacy operations, including inventory of infusion medications, staff training, and quality control processes.
* Lead a team of pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, and support staff, promoting a culture of excellence and patient-focused care.
* Monitor key performance indicators, analyze operational data, and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency and satisfaction.
* Serve as an expert on infusion therapies (e.g., biologics, IVIG, antibiotics), staying informed on industry trends, reimbursement policies, and clinical advancements.
* Establish and maintain relationships with pharmaceutical manufacturers to secure access to specialty infusion drugs and support patient assistance programs.
* Develop patient and staff education programs to ensure safe administration and adherence to infusion therapy protocols.
Qualifications:
* PharmD or Bachelor’s degree in Pharmacy from an accredited institution.
* Active pharmacist license in multiple states as a non-resident pharmacist as required by state board regulations.
* Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in specialty pharmacy or infusion services, with at least 3 years in a leadership role.
* Strong knowledge of infusion therapy, sterile compounding, and specialty medication management.
* Familiarity with regulatory standards for infusion pharmacy, including USP <797> and <800> compliance.
* Proven leadership skills with experience managing multidisciplinary teams.
* Excellent communication and collaboration skills with healthcare providers, payers, and internal stakeholders.
* Analytical abilities with experience in performance metrics and operational optimization.
* Proficiency in pharmacy management systems and Microsoft Office Suite.
Preferred Qualifications:
* Experience with home infusion operations.
* Certification in Specialty Pharmacy (CSP) or sterile compounding certification.
* Background in payer negotiations and reimbursement for infusion therapies.
