What are the responsibilities and job description for the Benefit Support Specialist position at HPSA Acumen?
Job Purpose
As a company we help set up a type of government designation that helps recruit medical professionals by paying off their student loans, recruiting foreign physicians, and supplying grant funding.
The primary purpose of this position is to help the clients maximize the utility they gain from our HPSA designations. The secondary purpose is to maintain the relationship with the client over time, so they remember us when it is time to renew their designation in three years, or for when a future project arises.
Role and Responsibilities
This position requires that the employee learn about HPSA designations and memorizes the details on all the different federal and state loan repayment programs. The employee will work with someone currently providing the HPSA Benefit Support services until they can step into the role.
Additional list of job-related duties
- Review and understand client's designation(s).
- Research all available state loan repayment programs, federal loan repayment programs, J-1 visa waiver programs, scholarships, grants, and Medicare Bonus to see if client's designation(s) may be eligible.
- Once programs are researched, document findings in the tracker and create PowerPoint slides.
- Create handouts on available programs specific to the client.
- Communicate with client as to what benefits are available and how to obtain maximum benefits.
- Support the client and their providers before, during, and after program application cycles to ensure maximum compliance.
- Create binders for all of the client's sites that have become certified.
- Review client policy and procedures, patient billing data, and FTE information to ensure compliance with program regulations.
- Continuously follow up with loan repayment recipients regarding past due service or employment verifications, or with upcoming renewal contract application cycles.
- Assist clients with the BHW portal and communications with HRSA and State Primary Care offices.
- Track the amount of monetary value gained by the client's providers during the last year of loan repayment.
- Continuously (weekly) review loan repayment programs and search for new offerings. Update application cycle openings and closings. If a cycle opens or will open soon, review updated regulations and make any needed changes in the tracker.
- Continuously review available grants to clients based on their submitted questionnaire and update the client as often as they request. Update questionnaire with every new or renewed HBS contract.
- Stay up to date with all federal loan repayment programs. Track the release and review new regulations. Compare the old with the new and update clients on any changes found to ensure continued compliance.

Pay: $60,000.00 - $65,000.00 per year
