Client Safety Navigator (Prototypes Women's Center Ventura County)

JOB SUMMARY  Prototypes Oxnard Residential Women's Center, one of HealthRIGHT 360’s programs, is a 56-bed residential facility for women and women with children. This residential facility provides comprehensive substance use disorder (SUD), mental health, and psychiatric care by an interdisciplinary team of professionals. Treatment episode ranges in time from 60 days to 6 months.   Women ages 18 and above with severe substance use disorders can enter treatment with their children under the age of 10 ½. In addition, this program also severs pregnant and postpartum women, women with histories of trauma and/or domestic violence, women with co-occurring mental health disorders, women with history of traumatic brain injury, women with open DCFS cases, and women with criminal justice involvement.   The Client Safety Navigator is responsible for ensuring and maintaining a safe environment for all clients, staff, and visitors, and utilizes verbal de-escalation strategies to address crisis situations and client behavioral issues. The Client Safety Navigator ensures that the building space is safe and secure. The Client Safety Navigator will monitor entrances and exits, check clients in when returning from appointments, check visitors in, complete house runs and room checks, and help maintain overall safety of the program. The Client Safety Navigator will work with program leadership, Sherriff’s/local law enforcement and health and safety teams to respond to emergency and crisis situations at the program, including client drug use, overdose, programmatic interruptions, and other situations.   KEY RESPONSIBILITIES   Client Services: Stationed at the front desk, monitors entrances and exits, checks clients in when returning from appointments, and checks visitors in. Welcomes and assists clients when returning from appointments, ensuring that clients sign in and check any bags they may have for contraband. Welcomes visitors, checks visitors’ credentials, ensure visitors sign in and escort them to the supervisor on duty.    Safety Responsibilities: Ensures and maintains a safe and orderly environment for clients, staff, and visitors. Directs and deflects traffic; de-escalates tense, high pressure, and emotionally charged situations; and fosters a safe, respectful, and welcoming environment. Maintains positive, respectful, non- confrontational behaviors always, even when observing, receiving, or de-escalating disrespectful or disorderly behaviors. Make regular rounds to monitor entrances, exits, offices, common areas, and building perimeters. Ensures a welcoming environment by clearing areas of crowds, debris, and out-of-place items. Work collaboratively with service providers and administrative staff to maintain an orderly environment. Carries Narcan on person while on duty, utilizes nasal Narcan to reverse drug overdose when needed.  Works with local law enforcement when needed.      QUALIFICATIONS  Required: High school diploma or GED Ability to respond quickly and use good judgment in unusual and emergency situations Demonstrated ability to interface well with diverse, disadvantaged populations with multiple barriers to educational and vocational success, including low literacy, learning disabilities, physical disabilities, history of incarceration, and impaired cognitive functioning. Desired: At least 2-4 years of experience with the community behavioral health system and/or criminal justice system preferred. Trained in crisis de-escalation tactics. Trained in recognizing signs of overdose and the use of overdose reversal medication. Knowledge of Ventura County community behavioral health and public health systems. Understanding of social determinants of health and importance of whole person care. Familiarity with various supportive counseling strategies and wellness and recovery principles in working with clients with mental health, substance abuse, or co-occurring conditions. Ability to work with local law enforcement and leadership on site. Excellent verbal and written communication, planning and time management skills.   Background Clearance Must complete a background check and livescan clearance
