What are the responsibilities and job description for the Staff Accountant position at HRA?
The Staff Accountant is responsible for supporting the accounting needs of the Company and the Executive Directors for the communities assigned. Utilizing appropriate accounting control procedures this includes applying generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) to analyze financial information in order to properly book transactions and prepare monthly financial statements with a variance analysis, identifying trends, assisting with budgeting and audits, preparing schedules and analyses, investor reporting, sales and other tax returns, and partnering with the Executive Directors, Controller, CFO and other executives and managers in answering their questions, to help improve results and calling significant matters to their attention. This role is 20% remote.
Primary Responsibilities may include:
- Maintains and manages financial records, accounts and ledgers for multiple entities.
- Prepare supporting schedules for financial statements preparations.
- Must be proficient in reconciliations of multiple ledgers.
- Perform monthly journal entries and analysis; maintain fixed assets; prepare spreadsheets and analysis as needed for financial and/or operational analysis.
- Proficiency in month end closing.
- Performs accounts receivable functions such as processing invoices, payments and adjustments, preparing bank deposits and monitoring customer’s accounts for non-payments, delayed payments and other irregularities.
- Performs accounts payable functions such processing payments, adjustments, and researching and resolving discrepancies and unpaid invoices.
- Reviews accounting records and financial data to check for and verify accuracy.
- Compiles data and prepares a variety of reports.
- Identifies control deficiencies and suggest procedures to minimize loss.
- Assist with audits by serving as company liaison with auditors.

Skills include:
- BA/BS in Accounting
- Able to work independently and with a team with accuracy
- Sound organizational skills and attention to detail
- Must be a perfectionist by nature, with no tolerance for financial sloppiness.
- Experience with Multiple Locations a plus
- Must be skilled in dealing with financial and numeric data.
- Must be skilled in use of Excel Spreadsheets and formulas such as Vlookups, pivot tables and if statements etc.
- Must have very good verbal skills.
- Must have excellent work habits, including a willingness to work the hours necessary to get the job done, especially when important deadlines cause greater than normal departmental pressures.
