Position Summary

As the Maintenance Supervisor at Hartville Hardware, you will oversee the maintenance and upkeep of the store's physical facilities, including the building, equipment, and grounds. This position is essential for ensuring a safe, clean, and efficient environment for both customers and team members. You will be responsible for managing a small maintenance team, handling repairs, coordinating preventative maintenance, and ensuring compliance with safety standards. 

Key Responsibilities

Facility Maintenance

• Building Maintenance: Oversee the daily upkeep of the store, including repairs, plumbing, electrical systems, and HVAC.
• Equipment Repairs: Ensure that all store equipment are functioning properly and undergo regular maintenance.
• Preventive Maintenance: Develop and execute a preventative maintenance program to address minor repairs before they become major issues, ensuring equipment longevity and operational efficiency.
• Flooring and Fixtures: Manage the upkeep of floors, lighting, shelving, and fixtures throughout the store, ensuring they are safe and in good condition.

Team Leadership

• Supervise Maintenance Team: Lead and direct a team of janitorial workers, assigning tasks and ensuring high-quality performance in line with company standards.
• Training and Development: Provide ongoing training and guidance to the janitorial team on best practices, safety protocols, and equipment use.
• Work Scheduling: Create and manage maintenance schedules, ensuring all required tasks are completed in a timely manner, including after-hours work when necessary.

Safety and Compliance

• Safety Standards: Ensure that all maintenance activities are carried out in compliance with safety regulations, store policies, and legal requirements.
• Emergency Response: Be on-call to handle emergency maintenance issues that may arise, such as plumbing leaks, electrical failures, or equipment breakdowns.
• Cleanliness and Organization: Oversee the cleanliness and organization of maintenance areas, ensuring that tools, supplies, and equipment are properly stored and easy to access.

Inventory and Budget Management

• Inventory Management: Track and order maintenance supplies, tools, and equipment, maintaining an adequate stock of essential items.
• Budget Management: Monitor maintenance expenses, working with management to maintain cost-effective practices while ensuring the safety and functionality of the store’s infrastructure.

Vendor Management

• Third-Party Contractors: Coordinate with external vendors and contractors for specialized repairs or installations, ensuring quality service at competitive prices.
• Contractor Oversight: Ensure that all contracted maintenance work meets store standards, follows timelines, and adheres to safety and regulatory requirements.
• Utilizes and maintains ticketing systems for all open jobs both internally and externally.

Customer and Team Member Relations

• Customer Interaction: Ensure that the store environment is safe and clean for customers at all times, creating a positive experience when shopping.
• Support Team Members: Provide internal support to other departments by addressing facility-related concerns, including temperature control, lighting, or space optimization.
• Building exterior and interior signage and hanging signage utilizing Scissorlift equipment.

Qualifications & Skills

• Experience: Proven experience in facility management or maintenance supervision, with at least 3-5 years in a similar role, preferably in a retail or hardware environment.
• Leadership Skills: Strong leadership and team management skills, with the ability to motivate and guide a diverse team.
• Technical Knowledge: Solid understanding of building systems, including electrical, plumbing, HVAC, and general repair techniques.
• Problem-Solving: Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to address maintenance issues quickly and effectively.
• Communication: Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, to effectively interact with team members, vendors, and store management.
• Organizational Skills: Strong organizational abilities, with the capacity to prioritize and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
• Physical Requirements: Ability to perform physical tasks such as lifting, bending, and carrying heavy equipment or materials as needed for maintenance duties.
• Certifications: Certification in HVAC, electrical, plumbing, or other relevant trades is a plus.
