Position Summary
The Sales Supervisor for Tools and Outdoor Power is responsible for leading and supporting the sales team in this key department. This role ensures exceptional customer service, maintains product knowledge, drives sales, and oversees daily operations. The Sales Supervisor works closely with team members and store leadership to create a positive shopping experience while upholding Hartville Hardware’s high standards of service and expertise.
As Team Leader:
As a team leader, the supervisor embodies servant leadership characteristics, such as putting others above oneself. They must be willing to do whatever it takes, setting the tone with hard work and dedication. They must have the ability to confront and coach team members performance issues and give appropriate praise to team members when exhibiting ideal behaviors.
Regular Duties Include:
- Assigns tasks to team members and ensure completion in a timely manner
- Schedules team members using store scheduling framework and UKG software - balancing adequate coverage and work/life balance
- Confronts and corrects team member performance issues and gives appropriate praise
- Informs team members of new company policies
- Coaches team members in processes that Hartville Hardware has adopted
- Ensures that monthly department meetings and annual reviews are completed
As Customer Service Leader:
As a customer service leader, the supervisor must provide direction to all supervised team members on the floor through modeled behavior. They must always treat customers and team members the way that they would want to be treated. They are responsible for the customer shopping experience in their department first and throughout the store second, continually looking for ways to improve the customer experience.
Regular Duties Include:
- Being an advisor and coach in resolving customer issues
- Is the lead contact on the floor for all promotions, informing team members of upcoming events
- Trains team members in customer service best practices
- Resources and schedules any department specific training needed by team members
- Implements new department specific processes with the goal of alleviating customer service issues
Sales Floor Leader:
As a sales floor leader, the sales supervisor is one who ensures the retail sales floor and back stock areas are organized and properly stocked in order to maximize profit in their area.
Regular Duties Include:
- Works in sync with the relevant Merchandise Manager advising on product selection and ordering need
- Keeps sales floor and back stock areas clean and orderly
- Makes sure shelves are cleaned, stocked, and priced correctly
- Helps maintain location codes
- Ensures proper signage is made and placed where and when needed
- Prepares department(s) for promotions or sales
- Updates price changes on the floor within 24 hours of receiving them
- Reviews Scan Outs promptly and return to relevant Merchandise Manager
- Spends a majority of their time on the sales floor when not working on administrative or other assigned tasks
Professional Development:
A supervisor must invest in themselves for future growth and development. They must be able to implement a strategic annual growth plan, as well as meet regularly with the General Manager. They must be a lifelong learner who is teachable.
Regular Duties Include:
- Meet with the General Manager regularly
- Attend manager meetings, necessary trade shows and professional events as assigned by the Division Manager
- Willing to pursue and/or agree to training involving sales, customer service and relevant department products
- Intentionally looks for ways to improve themselves as well as those around him/her
- Understands and utilizes key profit indicators
Availability Requirements

Must be available to work one evening until 7pm and most Saturdays.
- Store Hours are Monday-Friday 6am-7pm and Saturday 7am-5pm
