Sr. Mechanical Engineer
Location : San Jose, CA
Contract : 12-month contract with likely extension / direct hire
Schedule : 9x80 schedule (onsite), 1st shift
Compensation : $64.98 / hour with PTO and optional benefits
Onboarding Requirements : Background check and drug screening. Must be US Citizen / Eligible for DoD Clearance.
Position Description
The Combat Vehicles Senior Mechanical Engineer will provide Engineering Production Support (EPS) for transitioning new designs to production and resolving build process issues.
Key Responsibilities
Engineering Production Support (EPS) :
Address design issues arising during production through root-cause analysis.
Develop and implement change documentation to resolve design issues.
Work closely with design engineers and specialty engineers across structures, ballistics, mechanical, and logistics disciplines.
Design & Integration :
Generate new designs that meet technical requirements, cost, and schedule constraints.
Design efficient interface components for integrating new products.
Conduct trade studies and tolerance stack analyses for design improvements.
Ensure designs comply with engineering standards, military specifications, and product requirements.
Modeling & Analysis :
Create and edit CAD models using PTC Creo .
Design and analyze welded and bolted joints .
Use finite element analysis (FEA) tools and apply Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) .
Perform impact analysis and troubleshoot testing issues, documenting results.
Collaboration & Communication :
Prepare presentations and variance documentation to support vehicle sales.
Work with suppliers to facilitate cost and quality improvements.
Provide input to project leaders on project plans, schedules, and budgets.
Prepare and deliver technical reports, papers, and presentations.
Maintain up-to-date knowledge of engineering disciplines, industry practices, and trends.
Required Skills :
Strong organizational and communication skills with the ability to deliver technical presentations.
Self-starter with the ability to take ownership of tasks and drive them to completion.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, including experience in root-cause corrective action .
Knowledge of finite element analysis (FEA) tools and GD&T .
Preferred Skills :
Experience with tolerance analysis, trade studies, and FEA analysis .
Knowledge of engineering structures design, prototyping, production, and test environments in defense-related applications.
Experience with military standards and manufacturing best practices .
Familiarity with drawings, models, and GD&T standards .
Required Experience :
Experience in designing, analyzing, and integrating state-of-the-art technology onto combat vehicles.
Proficiency in solid modeling and mechanical design using CAD systems ( preferably PTC Creo, Pro-E, or SolidWorks ).
Preferred Experience :
Experience communicating with internal and external customers .
Extensive knowledge of engineering structures in ground vehicle applications .
Education Requirements :
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering (BSME), Aerospace Engineering (BSAE), or a related technical field plus 4 years of relevant experience .
Master's degree in a relevant discipline plus 2 years of relevant experience .
