Data Scientist
Location: Columbus, OH
Contract: 6 months (with likely extension or direct hire)
Schedule: Hybrid | 9/80 (1st shift)
Compensation: $45-55/hour (optional PTO and Benefits)
Job Description
Company’s Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear, and Explosives (CBRNE) Defense business line, part of our National Security business unit, is seeking individuals with expertise in physical/mathematical phenomena and programming skills.
The Hazard Modeling Team within CBRNE Defense provides technical analyses and modeling capabilities to support customer preparedness and response planning efforts. Successful applicants will contribute to the safety and preparedness of the United States and Company’s clients.
Responsibilities
- Serve as technical lead for a small team of data scientists conducting annual quantitative risk assessments for CBRNE terrorism threats against the U.S. using existing software models and architecture.
- Identify and implement improvements and maintenance activities to enhance the efficiency of the existing risk execution system/software.
- Maintain comprehensive internal documentation on execution processes and develop high-level client documentation for risk analyses/results.
- Annually present risk results and modeling/data updates to clients and external stakeholders.
- Monitor task completion and communicate progress to the client in weekly teleconferences.
- Prepare annual reports detailing methods used and results obtained.
Key Qualifications
- Education:
- Bachelor's degree with 5 years of experience
- Master’s degree with 2 years of experience
- Ph.D. in Physics, Mathematics, Engineering, or another scientific discipline
- Strong understanding of higher-level mathematics (e.g., calculus, differential equations, linear algebra).
- Minimum one year of experience in project management or task leadership, with a proven ability to meet deadlines on schedule and within budget.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills for conveying scientific and technical data to non-technical and semi-technical audiences.
- Ability to travel domestically up to 10%.
- Must be a U.S. Citizen with the ability to obtain and maintain a Secret DoD clearance.
Preferred Qualifications
- 3 years of experience in:
- Modeling & simulation
- Statistical analysis
- Quantitative risk assessment
- Data science
- Systems engineering
- Knowledge of advanced statistics and/or probability.
- Strong technical writing skills.
- Experience with data visualization techniques.
- Experience in modeling & simulation on a government program.
- Proficiency in object-oriented programming languages (C , C#, Java, etc.) for developing mathematical models.
- Experience with advanced data analysis techniques such as machine learning, artificial intelligence, or natural language processing.
- U.S. Citizen with the ability to obtain and maintain a Top Secret DoD clearance.
