Type of Position:

Candidate Requirements:
• This position is only open to US Citizens and Permanent Residents (Green Card holders). Candidates requiring visa sponsorship or holding work authorizations such as H-1B, F-1, or TN visas are not eligible for any positions with this company.
• Due to the nature of this role with a defense contractor supporting the federal government, candidates will be required to pass a comprehensive drug screening, which includes testing for cannabis. No exceptions will be made, including for medical cannabis prescriptions or state-level legalizations.

Madison Heights, MI (onsite role).
Compensation:
Compensation for this role is flexible and will be based on the candidate’s experience, skills, and qualifications. We are open to exploring candidates with a variety of backgrounds and expertise levels, and compensation requirements.

• This role will have 10 days PTO (PTO accrues over time). In going direct hire, there will be significantly more PTO.
Job Description:
HRU Technical Resources has partnered with a woman-owned, service-disabled veteran-owned defense contractor specializing in R&D, reverse engineering, system integration, and manufacturing for military applications. We are an innovative and ethically driven organization, and we’d love for you to join our team! We’re seeking to hire a Technical Writer for our corporate office in Madison Heights, MI. This role is responsible for creating, editing, and maintaining technical documents, including manuals, reports, and proposals. You’ll work closely with engineers, project managers, and other stakeholders to translate complex technical concepts into clear, concise, and user-friendly documentation. Additionally, this role supports the capture strategy and proposal development process, ensuring compliance with industry and contractual requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
• Develop and edit a variety of technical documents, including manuals, user guides, reports, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and proposals
• Collaborate with engineers, SMEs, and project managers to gather technical information and ensure accuracy
• Create visuals such as diagrams, charts, and illustrations to support written content
• Ensure compliance with contract requirements, industry regulations, and internal standards
• Manage documentation lifecycle, including revisions, approvals, and version control
• Conduct peer reviews to ensure clarity, accuracy, and consistency across documents
• Support proposal development, ensuring clear, compelling, and compliant responses to RFPs and government contracts
• Format and structure documents for readability, usability, and professional presentation
• Maintain document repositories using version control tools such as SharePoint or document management systems
Required Skills / Experience:
• Bachelor’s degree in English, Communications, Technical Writing, Engineering, or a related field is preferred. Candidates without a Bachelor’s Degree may be considered with significant relevant experience. A minimum of a High School Diploma / GED is required.
• 3 years of experience in technical writing, preferably in a defense, engineering, or government contracting environments. 5 years of relevant experience without a Bachelor’s Degree.
• Strong proficiency in technical writing, editing, and formatting
• Excellent command of English grammar, syntax, and style
• Ability to interpret technical data and translate it into user-friendly content
• Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively with subject matter experts (SMEs) – both internal and external resources.
Preferred Education, Experience, & Skills:
• Experience with government proposals and defense contracting documentation
• Familiarity with military standards (MIL-STD) and compliance documentation
• Knowledge of configuration management and document control practices
