Overview: The Senior Accountant plays a critical role in the financial health and compliance of the organization. This position is responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, preparing financial statements, and assisting with the month-end and year-end closing processes. Key duties include general ledger maintenance, account reconciliations, and supporting budgeting and forecasting activities. The Senior Accountant also ensures compliance with accounting standards and tax regulations, assists in audits, and contributes to internal control processes. The Senior Accountant also acts as a mentor and resource for junior accounting staff, fostering their professional development and ensuring the team meets organizational goals. This position requires a high level of expertise in accounting, strong analytical and problem-solving skills, and the ability to work independently and collaboratively in a dynamic environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Month-End and Year-End Closings:
- Assist with the month-end and year-end closing processes, including adjusting journal entries, account reconciliations, and accruals.
- Ensure all financial data is accurately recorded and reports are prepared on time.
- General Ledger Maintenance:
- Maintain and reconcile the general ledger, ensuring all entries are accurate and comply with accounting standards.
- Review and post journal entries for various transactions.
- Internal Controls and Compliance:
- Implement internal control procedures to safeguard company assets and ensure the integrity of financial data.
- Participate in internal and external audits, providing documentation and information as required.
- Fixed Asset Management:
- Maintain records of fixed assets, including acquisitions, disposals, and depreciation calculations.
- Conduct periodic physical inventory counts and reconcile with accounting records.
- Data Entry and Record Keeping
- Enter financial transactions into accounting software.
- Maintain and update accounting records, including ledgers, journals, and financial statements.
- Accounts Payable
- Process invoices and verify accuracy, ensuring they are approved and coded correctly.
- Prepare and process payments, including checks and electronic transfers.
- Reconcile vendor statements and resolve discrepancies.
- Accounts Receivable
- Generate and send out invoices to customers.
- Track and manage accounts receivable, including follow-up on overdue accounts.
- Record payments received and reconcile customer accounts.
- Bank Reconciliation
- Reconcile bank statements with company records to ensure accuracy of cash balances.
- Investigate and resolve any discrepancies.
- Compliance and Documentation
- Ensure all financial transactions comply with company policies, procedures, and regulations.
- Maintain accurate and organized financial records for audit purposes.
- Communication and Collaboration
- Communicate with vendors, customers, and other departments regarding financial transactions.
- Collaborate with team members to ensure the smooth operation of accounting processes.
- Miscellaneous Administrative Duties
- Perform general administrative tasks, such as filing, answering phones, and handling correspondence.
- Assist with special projects and other duties as assigned by management.
- Regulatory Reporting
- Create and maintain lists of sales tax required filings, annual reporting and regulatory filings.
- Ensure all required filings are complete, accurate and timely.

Job Knowledge, Skills & Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
- Minimum of 3 years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 1 year in a leadership role.
- Extensive knowledge of accounting principles, standards, and regulations (GAAP, IFRS).
- Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., SAP, Oracle, QuickBooks) and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Strong strategic, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
