General Description

This position within the Tampa Pavement Constructors Division of Hubbard Construction Company will have at least 3 years of asphalt estimating experience, with an emphasis on DOT Work.

Key Duties

• Experience working for a Prime Contractor as an asphalt estimator bidding on DOT or heavy highway projects required.
• Turn-key Estimate preparation from specification review, take-off, and costing to presentation for final review.
• Estimating projects which typically range from <1 million to 15 million dollars.
• Estimating self-performed work and pricing the labor, equipment, and material costs.
• Subcontractor solicitation, quote entry, analysis and selection.
• Working knowledge of construction assemblies and all project phases.
• Ability to produce accurate estimates from conceptual and schematic drawings.
• Ability to produce detailed, final contract estimates.
• Ability to assess site exposures/construction risks and be able to appropriately analyze cost and reflect these in an estimate.
• Ability to identify constructability issues through the estimating process.
• Ability to identify value-engineering alternatives.
• Ability to work as a team.
• Ability to read, write and communicate effectively in English.
• Working experience on HCSS software a plus.
• Travel within Florida may be required.

Qualification Requirements

• Education and Experience.  This position typically is not an entry-level job, as it requires demonstrable previous experience as an Estimator.  A four-year degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering or equivalent is preferred.  Must be able to understand work directions and communicate effectively with management and fellow employees.  Typical projects are urban phased reconstruction, interstate resurfacing, highway replacements, and airport projects.  Valid Florida driver’s license and satisfactory driving record.
   
• Physical Demands.  The following physical demands are representative of those that must be met by an Estimator to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. 

• Regularly required to sit and/or stand during a regular work shift of at least eight hours per day. 
• Employee is occasionally required to stoop, bend, walk, crouch, and climb.
• Ability to lift, on a frequent basis, at least 25 pounds and carry up to 15 pounds.
• Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
• Continuous mental attention required to complete tasks in an efficient manner.

• Work Environment.  The work environment characteristics described below are representative of those that an Estimator encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. 

• Work is performed indoors.
• The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
