SUMMARY:

Hudson Public Schools is seeking their next Hudson High School principal. This position is accountable for providing effective leadership for the implementation of School Committee Policies and the goals of the Hudson Public Schools. The principal is responsible for setting the vision for achieving and sustaining high levels of student achievement and strategically implementing the school’s mission through effective leadership of all stakeholders, including faculty, staff, student, parents, and the community. The principal oversees all aspects of the instructional program, school environment and the operational and fiscal health of the school.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Serve as the instructional leader of the building and able to articulate a clear and compelling vision founded in strong and sustainable student achievement outcomes.

  • Manage personnel effectively through appropriate delegation, planning and evaluation.
  • Foster an environment where staff and faculty work cooperatively together and hold each other accountable to reach high levels of student achievement.
  • Lead the improvement of student achievement by implementing the Educator Evaluation System through effective teacher observation and evaluation practices with high levels of fidelity.
  • Provide ongoing professional development for staff, based on an analysis of data, best practices and instructional research identified by the Instructional Leadership Team.
  • Model and promote the continuous use of data to inform practice and drive decision- making and instruction.
  • Observe teaching methods and examine learning materials to determine areas of improvement as needed.
  • Manage school resources (fiscal, human capital, facilities and equipment, etc.) to support student achievement goals and to comply with district policies.
  • Foster a positive school climate by assessing, planning, and communicating with the school community, promoting distributive leadership while demonstrating understanding of and respect and appreciation for cultural diversity.
  • Promote a positive tone for collaborative school/community relations by articulating the school’s mission, seeking community support, and fostering partnerships with various groups.
  • Confer with parents and staff to discuss educational activities, policies, and student issues.
  • Perform any other tasks and other responsibilities assigned or delegated by the Superintendent.


Qualifications:

  • Licensure as a High School Principal from the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education.
  • A minimum of a Master’s Degree in Education or related field.
  • At least five years' experience as a public school administrator, a district level administrator, and/or a supervisor of curriculum.
  • Commitment to the belief that all students can learn and to the mission of educational equity.
  • Capacity to define a vision, build teams and achieve results for all students.
  • Record of success in leading adults; prior experience with personnel recruitment, selection, training, management, labor relations and supervision.
  • Knowledge of principles and methods for curriculum and training design, teaching and instruction for individuals and groups, and the measurement of training effects.
  • Keen ability to use data in the decision making process and strong analytic and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to continuously elevate professional contributions through ongoing reflection, building upon previous learning and being open and receptive to ongoing feedback.
  • Demonstrated success leading strategic educational initiatives that result in measurable improved student achievement.
  • Demonstrated educational leadership with the ability to build consensus and to process critical issues for decision-making.
  • Proven ability in budget preparation and line-item expenditure process.
  • Proven ability to successfully communicate with parents, teachers and members of the community.
  • Demonstrated experience with second language acquisition and special education instructional best practices.
  • Proven ability to work as part of a management team.
  • Successful completion of Criminal Records Check (CORI), and fingerprints


TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

  • 12-month position.
  • Salary to be determined by Superintendent. $140,000 - $160,000
  • 25 vacation days, 5 personal days, 18 sick days, 14 Holidays.
  • Benefit Eligible on start date. 30 days to enroll in coverage from start date.

While performing duties of this job, the employee may often remain in a stationary position for considerable periods of time. The employee will have also have ample periods of standing and may be required to traverse throughout the building. The employee must frequently use hands and frequently operates a computer and other office productivity machinery (i.e., calculator, copy machine, and computer printer).
Physical abilities may also include lifting/carrying/pushing/pulling, stooping/crouching, reaching/handling, talking/hearing conversations, and near/far visual acuity/depth perception/color vision/field. Ability must be able to lift and/or push and pull 15 to 20lbs for short periods, and walk up and down stairs several times a day. The employee must be able to communicate effectively with students, staff members, and the public in person and on the telephone.
