Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Kennel Assistant to join our team. Hudson Valley Animal Rescue & Sanctuary is a 501c3 non-profit animal rescue that offers afforable vet services from wellness appointments, surgical procedures, dentals, xrays and so much more. We also house over 30 rescue dogs. The ideal candidate will have a passion for animal care and a strong understanding of pet handling and safety. As a Kennel Assistant, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the well-being of the animals in our care, providing them with a safe and nurturing environment. This position requires a commitment to high standards of cleanliness and animal welfare.
Responsibilities
- Provide daily care for dogs and other animals, including feeding, watering, and exercising.
- Maintain cleanliness of kennels, play areas, and other facilities to ensure a hygienic environment.
- Monitor the health and behavior of animals, reporting any concerns to management or veterinary staff.
- Assist with grooming tasks as needed, including bathing and brushing pets.
- Handle animals safely using proper restraint techniques when necessary.
- Support dog training efforts by reinforcing commands and behaviors as directed by trainers.
- Assist with administrative tasks such as maintaining records of animal care.
Experience
- Previous experience in animal care or handling is preferred but not required; we welcome candidates eager to learn.
- Familiarity with kennel operations or veterinary assistance is a plus.
- Skills in dog training or pet grooming are beneficial for this role.
- Strong customer service skills to effectively interact with pet owners and team members.
- Ability to work well under pressure in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail.
