Key Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership
- Partner with the President and leadership team to shape and implement the Institute's strategic goals.
- Align economic development and commercialization initiatives with HudsonAlpha's mission and objectives.
- Represent the Institute at external events and foster relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including scientists, collaborators, and policymakers.
- Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing economic development team.
- Develop and manage departmental budgets, ensuring fiscal responsibility and compliance.
- Build partnerships to secure funding and support for HudsonAlpha's economic development initiatives.
- Develop strategies and policies to foster intellectual property licensing and technology commercialization.
- Collaborate with Faculty Investigators to assess and translate research findings for commercial applications.
- Responsible for driving revenue growth through the attraction and retention of life science companies on HudsonAlpha campuses.
- Monitor legislation and public policy affecting economic development.
Qualifications And Experience
- 10 years in economic development, entrepreneurship, technology transfer, or related fields, with 6 years in a management role.
- Bachelor's degree in STEM, business, public administration, or a related field.
- Proven success in delivering major programs, with expertise in scientific commercialization and addressing barriers to success.
- Residency in the Huntsville metropolitan area / Tennessee Valley within 90 days of hire.
- Strategic Thinking: Develop and implement plans aligned with the Institute's mission and goals.
- Scientific Insight: Able to grasp the general context and potential possibilities / limitations of scientific findings.
- Leadership: Inspire and guide teams through organizational change.
- Communication: Clearly convey complex ideas to diverse audiences.
- Collaboration: Build strong partnerships and foster a culture of teamwork.
- Problem-Solving: Adapt strategies to address evolving challenges.
