A Shift Supervisors will supervise the day to day operation during their shift. Owning the overall results for Safety, Product Quality, Production, and Cost for their shift.

You are expected to ensure you work safely at all times, following all Select Products safety rules, policies, and procedures.
You are expected to be Your Brothers Keeper by maintaining a safe work area, being the example, and watching out for the safety of those around you.
You will hold others accountable for following Select Products safety rules, policies, and procedures.
There is NOTHING more important than the safety and well-being of our employees.
Ensure product produced meets the quality standards for each Brand.
You will hold all operators accountable for performing quality checks hourly and at each roll change throughout the shift. Diameters will be checked no less than 3 times per parent roll.
Ensure that off quality product that has made it to a pallet is placed on hold and rework the product within your shift.
You will set direction for all shift employees and any temporary employees. Direction will be set to safely produce a Quality product at the highest possible output, and the lowest possible cost. Changeovers will be staggered to ensure that sufficient resources are available for each.
Continuously strive to reduce all waste (broke) and deliver our products at the lowest possible cost.
You will hold operators and temps accountable to not wasting raw materials, parts, time, or good product.
Zero good product will be thrown out, minimal slab off during prep or sheet break, run poly as close to the core as you can, try to run all KDF. Only off quality rolls / packages go to broke. Good quality product is returned to the conveyor to be rerun.
Be a professional and act with integrity. You are a representative of the company. Your actions directly reflect on the company.
Follow the company's Vision and Core Values. Treat others with dignity and respect. Always do what's right. Try to be principal based in your decision making. Only rule based when you have to.
You will read and understand the RR&E for all employees. This way you understand what is expected of them and you can hold them accountable to that.
The Shift Supervisor is the leader on the floor in Operations. You are responsible for all converting lines from front to back (from parent roll to finished product shrink wrapped on a pallet).
Lead by example. Don't expect your folks to do something that you yourself wouldn't do.
When things are going rough, its all hands on deck. Even the captain buckets water because he / she will be no better off than their crew if the ship goes down.
Look for opportunities to provide or arrange coaching and training for operators. You do not necessarily have to provide the training. If you possess the skill and time, then ok. You just have to know who the SMEs are and go to them to arrange the training / coaching.
Pass on all open and closed issues to your oncoming counterpart between 5 : 30 and 6 : 00. Provide as much detail and data as possible. Be honest in the accuracy of your reporting. What were the real issues? Mechanical, electrical, operational, lack of knowledge / skill, or even your own decision making. Have the courage to admit your own mistakes so that everyone can learn from them.
Your basic job is to Lead the people and Manage the processes and situations of each shift.
Housekeeping shall be maintained at a tour ready level at all times. Everything organized and in its place.
You will hold the operators accountable to ensuring that housekeeping shall be maintained throughout the entire shift. All equipment will be blown out, reruns done, and garbage cans emptied between 5 : 00-6 : 00 each shift.
Know who your resources are and utilize them. Don't let pride get in the way. You do not need to be the expert on everything. We pay you to supervise. Know the mechanics and who is better on what assets.
Ensure that the payroll for your shifts are accurate.
You are also responsible to attend the 9 : 15 Daily Direction Setting meeting and the 4 : 00 reconnect meetings to go over where we are at versus our plan and if we are off track anywhere.
You need to know and understand the terminology and acronyms that are used so that you can effectively communicate with others. Affective communication is key. Especially when dealing with so many people with so many different roles.
You need to flow from line to line, asset to asset all shift. Keeping track of and documenting issues as you go. Remember, manage the processes, and lead the people
Follow your call triggers and chain of command.
Follow the production schedule. Pushing out a changeover should be a last resort. If you have a question, ask. You may not always like the answer but a lot of times these decisions are made because the people making them have more information than you do. But always voice your opinion, because maybe you know something they don't.
It is your responsibility to get to know the brand codes that each line is capable of and expected to run. With that, understand what each lines capabilities are.
Hold your employees accountable for reliability and their overall performance. Be sure to track call outs and no call no shows. Know who the problem people are and where they are at as far their performance.
When you are in a meeting silence your phone and take notes. The best supervisors take notes and ask questions so that nothing is missed.
Be willing to change the plan if it makes sense. You have to improvise, adapt, and overcome. As I am sure you've heard before, we are not victims. Do something about it.
