  • Employment Type: Part-Time
  • Under the general supervision of the Dietitian Supervisor, is responsible for assessing nutrition risk, nutrition education needs, calculating daily nutrient needs and putting nutrition interventions in place for patients.

    • Adheres to the Dietetics standards of care, the Code of Ethics as defined by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics that govern behavior among peer and colleagues to create an environment promoting cooperation, respect and trust
    • Maintains professionalism by adhering to the Huggins Hospital dress code
    • Continues professional growth by maintaining education hours for license renewals
    • Maintains active RDN, LD license and certification

    Patient Advocacy:

    • Sets the stage for a positive patient interaction by always introducing self and clinical role
    • Facilitates patient and family centered care via prompt, courteous and clear communication of nutrition plan of care and educating at a level the patient, family and/or caregiver can comprehend
    • Care given to all patients addresses the age of each patient as well as the physical, psychological and individualized learning needs
    • Recognizes and utilizes appropriate resources for non-English speaking patients, healthcare illiteracy and hearing and sight impaired individuals
    • Take proactive steps to recognize and report suspected abuse/neglect including child, elder, sexual abuse, spousal abuse, and reports to supervisor and/or appropriate authorities

    Clinical Competency:

    • Coordinates the nutritional care of hospital in-patients. Completes and documents nutrition assessments, develops care plans and provides nutrition education per department standards
    • Communicates with medical and nursing staff, food service and nutrition assistant personnel and other ancillary departments in regards to nutritional care of patients Participates as part of the multi-disciplinary health care team concerning patient care plan
    • Uses written and verbal communication to report MNT provided for discharging patients
    • Assesses outpatient referrals, past medical history, and office interview to form a care plan. Uses the hospital scheduling system, billing system, and reporting system to provide care in a timely manner. Collects and reports productivity data.
    • Collects DSME/T program participant assessment data using ADCES framework, in a collaborative and ongoing manner.
    • Provides Nutrition TeleHealth services to referred patients when appropriate.
    • Proficient with computerized documentation. Proficient with Room Service data base
    • Complies with established hospital policies and procedures. Demonstrates sound professional judgment and complies with standards of professional practice
    • Assists with and reviews patient menu selections to ensure understanding and compliance with prescribed Nutrition Prescription. Conducts meal rounds as appropriate; assesses and evaluates patient satisfaction
    • Participates in test tray evaluation and documentation
    • Provides nutrition focused activities for the Nutrition for Recovery program
    • Responds to nutrition consults with written recommendations to ordering MD per department standards
    • Updates room service data base with patient likes, dislikes, meal preferences, meal patterns and other pertinent information needed to provide safe, compliant meals to patients
    • Provides education counseling for the Cardiac Rehab Nutrition program.
    • Maintains patient interview, MNT, nutrition risk data for QI

    Quality:

    • Adheres to Infection Prevention standards, consistent in hand hygiene practice before and after each patient interaction
    • Participates in quality review within the department, utilizes evidence based best practices, and participates in performance improvement projects

    Organizational Expectations:

    Attendance: Attendance is an essential job function; employee comes to work daily, on time, and completes scheduled shift

    HIPAA: facilitates to maintain patient confidentiality

    Internal communication: contributes to positive team performance and a culture of service excellence through effective communication, active listening, and respect

    Interpersonal relationships: maintains appropriate interpersonal relationships with staff, patients, and visitors at all times. Works as a team member with other departments.

    Safety: Practices workplace safety daily

    Employee Engagement:

    Actively participates in all hospital Service Excellence initiatives and trainings

    Attends and participates in a minimum of 50% department staff meetings and signs off on review of 100% department staff meeting minutes

    Completes all required annual education on or before the due date

    Knowledge Skills and Abilities: Individuals must possess these knowledge, skills, and abilities or be able to explain and demonstrate that they can perform the primary functions of the job, with or without a reasonable accommodation, using some combination of skills and abilities and possess the necessary physical requirements, with or without a reasonable accommodation, to safely perform the essential functions of the job.

    Minimal physical effort required with occasional light lifting to a maximum of 25 pounds; stooping; and pick, pinch, type, or otherwise work primarily with fingers

    Ability to effectively manage considerable mental stress

    Ability to express or exchange ideas by means of the spoken word

    Ability to receive detailed information through oral communication

    Ability to communicate effectively with co-workers and convey information in a clear, concise and accurate manner

    Familiarity with computer and other business machines

    Qualifications:

    Education: BS in Dietetics, Masters preferred

    Experience: 1 year experience as Clinical Dietitian preferred

    License and Certification: Current New Hampshire Registered Dietitian License, Current Registration with the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, BLS (Basic Life Support) certification required
