Yard Hand

Job Summary: Hughes Lumber Company is seeking a dedicated and hardworking Yard Hand / Load Builder to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for organizing and managing the yard, as well as assisting with the preparation and building of loads for transportation. This position requires a strong attention to detail, ability to work in a fast-paced environment, and a commitment to ensuring safety and efficiency in every task. Key Responsibilities:

• Organize and maintain the yard, ensuring materials and equipment are stored safely and efficiently.
• Assist in building and securing loads on trucks, ensuring proper weight distribution and safe transport.
• Use forklifts, pallet jacks, and other equipment to move materials and products around the yard.
• Load and unload trucks, verifying the accuracy of the shipment and ensuring that all items are properly secured.
• Inspect materials and equipment for damage or defects, and report any issues to the supervisor.
• Collaborate with drivers, dispatch, and other team members to ensure timely and accurate deliveries.
• Maintain a clean and organized yard, adhering to safety standards and regulations.
• Assist with inventory management, including tracking stock levels and reporting discrepancies.
• Perform basic maintenance and upkeep of yard equipment as needed.
• Adhere to company policies, safety procedures, and environmental regulations.

Requirements:

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Previous experience in a yard or warehouse environment preferred.
• Ability to safely operate forklifts and other material handling equipment.
• Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
• Ability to lift and move heavy items and perform physical tasks throughout the day.
• Basic math skills for verifying load quantities and measurements.
• Ability to work in varying weather conditions and a physically demanding environment.
• Strong communication skills and a team-oriented mindset.
• Basic knowledge of safety standards and procedures.
• Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends, if needed.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $15.00 per hour
