Job Summary
The role of a Graphics Color Technician involves establishing and upholding a color-managed environment to ensure that electronic packaging graphics and proofs are accurately replicated on a printing press. This position demands a robust technical understanding of color proofing, printing processes, press profiles, press curves, and the use of a spectrophotometer. The technician is also tasked with training other graphics staff in proofing, color profiling, and color management techniques. Additionally, they work closely with external prepress companies to guarantee the receipt of accurate files and proofs.
The Graphics Color Technician provides support to facility print teams when color-related challenges or issues arise during printing.
Essential Functions
- Conduct fingerprinting of presses at various Huhtamaki locations to create profiles for accurate color matching.
- Develop proofing workflows and establish color management best practices for use by all Graphics Coordinators and external prepress trade shops to ensure consistency and accuracy in deliverables to the printing press.
- Configure and maintain the GMG proof server and Epson printers.
- Configure and maintain the GMG Color Card.
- Configure and maintain graphics Mac computers, including hardware and software.
- Update and troubleshoot computers as needed.
- Provide support to facility print teams as needed to ensure accurate color matching on press.
- Stay updated on industry trends and advancements in color management, prepress, and printing technology.
- Offer technical instruction and tools to customers to assist them in preparing their packaging artwork.
- Produce high-resolution, color-accurate proofs for customers’ final approval.
- Possess knowledge of Esko workflows, Esko Curve Pilot, Curve4, and profiling software.
- Manage customers' expectations regarding print outcomes.
- Participate in project management calls as necessary.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Job Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor’s degree in Design, Imaging Technologies, or a related field.
- Highly proficient in Mac hardware and software.
- Highly skilled in Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop.
- Extensive knowledge of printing processes and color separations.
- Expertise in press profiles, fingerprinting techniques, and press curves.
- Excellent color perception skills, with the ability to distinguish color variances.
Preferred
- Experience with packaging and packaging substrates is a plus.
- Strong ability to manage multiple priorities and meet various deadlines.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
- Strong problem-solving and critical thinking abilities.
- Good organizational skills.
- Willingness to work extended hours as needed.
Environment
- Hybrid work environment that mixes in-office and remote work to offer flexibility and support to employees. In-office hours are set by group Manager.
- Work hours are usually 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. but could require after hours and weekend work to complete projects on time
- Travel as needed; up to 10%
