POSITION SUMMARY
The Humane Health Coalition Coordinator at Humane Animal Rescue will have a wide variety of responsibilities to ensure the medical care of both the animals in the shelter, and the owned animals seen through our pop-up clinics and mobile veterinary services. The HHC Coordinator must travel with the HHC team, participate in offsite and onsite HHC clinics and step into other veterinary technician jobs throughout HARP as needed.

Effectively restrain pets even when large or difficult.

Understands all common vaccinations and vaccination protocols and can explain to clients and adopters

Understands the importance of a clean and orderly facility, does not hesitate to clean, or organize as part of a normal job duty.

Handles client’s medical questions with confidence and direct veterinarians when appropriate.

Maintains positive, cooperative relationships with other employees.

Understands usage, dosage, and common side effects for commonly used prescription drugs.

Ability to properly log the usage and correctly handle controlled substances.

Maintains an appropriate inventory of all medical supplies.

Keeps full inventory of the HARP MOVES mobile clinic, informing appropriate staff when supplies need ordered

Keeps the HARP MOVES mobile clinic cleaned and organized

Enters and organizes medical records after events and file for record keeping

Obtains and tracks HHC statistics throughout the months for reporting

Works closely with partners at AHN, CIH and ROOTS for scheduling and client contacting

Attending HHC planning meetings

Works as a veterinary technician for HARP as needed in either kennel, clinic or surgery

Ability to frequently check work-provided email.

Performs humane euthanasia for public pets on occasion without direct veterinarian supervision

Communicates common medical issues with owners
-
Explains necessary follow-up and homecare instructions.

Performs clinical laboratory procedures such as fecal flotation exams, heartworm checks, skin scrapings, urinalysis, and fungal cultures; draws blood for laboratory analysis; maintains file of lab test results and ensures that test results are recorded in patient records.

Reads and understands medical records from other facilities and use that information to determine next steps in proper care of the animal

Assists the veterinarian in medical, surgical and dental procedures; prepares patients for surgery; administers anesthesia; monitors patients during surgery and recovery; administers fluids.

Properly wrap and sterilize surgical packs, and properly identify the surgical instruments

Monitors and recover any animals sedated or anesthetized

Effectively communicate with clients over the telephone regarding our HARP MOVES mobile clinic and general HHC pop-up clinics. Must have the ability to answer general questions in a timely fashion, schedule appointments, make reminder calls and check out clients after their appointment is complete.

Room clients and get a history on the pet.

Educates clients on a wide array of pet ownership responsibilities.

Assists the veterinarian with the exam and vaccination of the animal.

Performs diagnostics as requested by the veterinarian.

Places supply orders through SDC and keep organized list of that inventory

Ability to take and organize payments on the mobile unit as necessary

Perform site evaluations as needed

Point of contact for site locations as needed

Must be willing to drive the HARP MOVES mobile clinic as needed

Must be able to come up with creative solutions to problems identified

Must be able to come up with creative way to engage the community
Work Environment:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee could be exposed to hazards associated with aggressive animals; hazards associated with infected animals and controlled substances; exposure to unpleasant odors and noises; exposure to bites, scratches and animal wastes; possible exposure to contagious diseases. The employee will primarily be working in the shelter environment. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to bend, stand, stoop, walk, sit, talk, listen, hear; use hands to finger, manipulate, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms. The employee must be able to lift and/or move up to a minimum of 40 pounds repeatedly thought the day with some assistance. Must be able to work standing for 6 or more hours.
Travel:
Travel between North and East shelter locations required. Travel to HHC Clinic sites as required.
Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS

High school diploma or equivalent
-
Veterinary Technician Certification (CVT) desirable but not required.

Two (2) year Veterinary Technician degree or equivalent/relevant experience

Experienced in the teamwork approach and works well with all levels of team members.

Excellent communication skills.
-
Ability to work evenings and weekends as scheduled.

Ability to work some holidays as scheduled.
-
Work requires lifting and carrying animals (will be assisted by other staff members in lifting animals over 40 lbs.); walks or stands for extended periods or time; frequently works in a bent position.

A valid driver’s license and comfortable with driving large vehicles with training
